In the past years there has been a rising number of zombie games made, particualrly by hobby and indie developers. To be honest I nver shared this enthusiasm about the zombie theme, and hope that it would pass, but it still goes on ...
But say, what do you think will be the next hype after zombie games?

I don't think zombies will ever die (ha!) off personally, they are just too damn easy to put into a game, and people love killing them. Maybe their popularity will fall a bit, but I doubt people will get sick of them.

Actually, hypes and fads have been around, but it just moved from "TV/Movies" to "Games". Just to be clear, my definition of a fad is something that both guys and gals are into at the same time. ( I'm only speaking for the place from which I was raised of course... it is vastly opinionated ) Before - Super Heroes 1990's TV/Movies - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Power Rangers 2000's TV/Games - Pokemon Current Movies/TV/Games - (The Undead) Vampires/Zombies/Werewolves If I were to take a wild guess into the future. Let's see... Since American culture has become more and more nerd based as we move along, the trends that are popping up have more and more to do with video game culture. Events such as ComicCon ( http://www.comic-con.org/) and E3 ( http://www.e3expo.com/) are becoming bigger and bigger each year with all sorts of media coverage. Add this to the growing amount of Youtube videos about gaming culture and I think we may have a winner. If I were to put money on it, it would have to be gaming related. Probably 90's retro-gaming themed? Just a wild guess...

Zombies will probably never completely disappear, because they are a representation of something, something evil and senseless, the worst in humankind you cannot stop, that gets stronger and stronger by 'killing' people and so on... There will be more concepts, dunno which, but zombies are always good if you really want to give the player a paranoic feeling or the ability to kill tonnes of people without having to consider moral.

Zombies are so popular because they give us a fantasy way to dehumanise humans. You can kill and maim and splortch and mutilate things that look just like real human beings without feeling like a violent psychopath on the surface. Underneath of course... well, it would appear that human beings have some sort of built-in desire to maim and kill each other, which explains a lot of things. Cas

1990's TV/Movies - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Power Rangers
Ahh that's right! Everyone at school had a power ranger action figure. And yo-yos made a brief resurgence, at least in Australia anyway. ...Now there's a thought... iYoyo.

A pity. Robots and robotic civilizations make great stories for sci-fi based games. ...Now there's a thought... iYoyo.

Well lets all be real here. We all want to kill some people in our lives. Zombie games let us get rid of this desire and frustrations without hurting anyone.

Before zombies it was vampires and werewolves. Maybe next it'll be witches or trolls? But Harry potter kind of did that already... Hmm.

I'm hoping this zombie fad to die a horrible death. I't tiresome to see them over and over again, even on games that have no reason to be about zombies. I don't mind much games/movies that ar aware of how retarded the concept is (eg.: Lollipop Chainsaw and Dead Snow) but those that try to scare you with some moronic scientific explanation to make them seem believable (eg.: Resident Evil and I am legend) just insult my intelligence. I was rather hoping it's going to be "robots" but this never seems to happen... Cas Doesn't sound all that far-fetched really, with all the hype created by the (awful) Michael Bay Transformers and (much better) Pacific Rim, in addition to Titanfall and the already ongoing Hawken, there could be a rising interest in those.

It seems the undead are all popular. Even skeletons and mummies. Ah yeah, I remember the movie 'the mummy', terrible. And Diablo, they loved their skeletons. Also, demons and angels had their time in the 'DaVinci Code' and 'Angels and Demons'. Diablo had them too. Maybe mutants might be next? Fears of radiation poisoning as a new cold war erupts between China and the US with the possibility of nuclear armageddon. Or apes! Like 'plant of the apes'. I liked those old movies, but the recent one was a stinker. Or aliens?

As long we we do not return to ****s, not even if they are set in the future or turned into zombies! @ctomni231 Power Rangers are still going strong with new series being made, you are probably not their target demographic anymore My children love them and they are quite popular on Netflix (in the uk).

Two to program the rotation matrix and one to make the new bulb model.
