Play the Alpha 1.0.0 Pre-Release 1.

It is interesting and not to be bashed to harshly as it is obviously very early in development and I assuming it is your first proper game, judging by your website, but there is definite room for improvement like the graphics look kind of like paint Cheesy and the collision detection is a little off.

Yet I do wait to see where you take this and wish you the best of luck.

Well got that one bug fixed in Pre Release 2 It was some thread concurrency issue where i had to put most of the "stuff" on the main menu game thread.  Grin And yes i notice the collision is a little off Hmm.. i think its something with the player width and height or the tile width/height will look at it!

I played the game and I must say that I had a fair bit of fun with it. There are some collision problems on the corners of blocks but I will look pass that since it's so early in development. One thing that does worry me a bit it your FPS counter. For me it read 16 fps the whole time I played. It didn't really feel like 16 fps but I should not get anywhere near that on my machine. Other than that stuff, the game look pretty good so far.

Lol it is actually pretty good, major collision problems with the corner of blocks though but the downside is the graphics, they are pretty bad lol, but that's ok, it runs without crashing and runs smooth so that is all that matters,

What you got planned for it?

Yeah, I am working on fixing the collision and definitely the graphics are gonna be updated (They are going to keep their pixel-like form because it is based off of the NES game Spelunker if you've ever heard of it) but more enemies and levels. I am thinking of adding bosses but probably not until 1.1 well I'll see how far I can get with this  Smiley

is the punch/shoot not implemented? or are the keys not working?
going back to the first level when you die makes it a bit discouraging to keep exploring.

yeah, I left out a lot of bugs but the gun and punch are implemented the controls are x and z for them I changed them at the last minute in pre2 so when Alpha 1.0.0 is out the help screen will be redone. As for the going back to the first level when you die.. the way my game is set up I would have to create multiple death screens to go back to the level you died in. But, I will look in to it!  Wink

Now i'm sure to be flamed for this, or perhaps get a shiny metal, but I need to tell you something that will keep you better off. Now you don't have to listen to me, thats fine. (but a lesson in a lesson, listening to all will help you in the long run).

First and foremost, On the behalf of what I've seen, no one looks up to game devs who don't make games that they like.  What you need to do first is CREATE an ENTIRE game, and then start trying to show themselves as a person.

What I mean by this is, make a product, then you'll be known for it. If someone suddenly said "I'M GOING TO CREATE THE BEST GAME EVER" no one will care, or they will say, do it. But if someone creates a great game, the person will then be known, take notch or redigit for example, they were just doing there own thing, people loved their games, and thus they became well known people. But have you ever heard of the guy who said they were going to create a game and get instant famous (without having made a previous product). No. you havent.

In summary

MAKE STUFF ==> GET FAMOUS
GET FAMOUS =/=> MAKE STUFF

or if it floats your boat

BE MILEY CYRUS ==> GET INFAMOUS

I personally dont like el little kids who act famous. *coughicoughtrycoughnotcoughtocoughbecoughone*

@SwordsMiner: that's a perfectly valid point you've made, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that he thinks everybody cares. Why else would you put a project up on here if not for exposure? Whoever likes it will like it, and for them the website might be a great way for them to constantly follow and stay updated with any developments.

@SwordsMiner Ok, I see your point, but if I was acting like I'm famous I am sorry, I really didn't mean to act that way. And I am not a kid necessarily. Technically speaking I am a teenager, 13 years old turning 14 years old very soon. But I made the website just for people (friends, people that care about the game, etc.) to check for updates, if I actually thought I was famous I would pay for a website with a custom domain (ex: www.THISISAGAMESITE.com) but I am sorry if I acted like a little kid who thinks he is famous.

You should keep your age to yourself imo, people are judgemental assholes when it comes to things such as Age, Color, Gender just as much as Java experience, even when they don't realise they are doing it.

When someone knows a characteristic or skill level of a person, they tend to keep it at the back of their mind when interacting with them. In most cases this is ok, others not ok.

Gibbo is correct in my opinion. I also believe that no matter your age, gender, skin tone etc... you can be a good programmer. Some 10 year olds are better than some 18 year old programmers, its not a matter of age, its a matter of knowledge absorption and the skill of being able to translate thoughts into working code. Using your age as an excuse for anything is generally looked down upon, and in my opinion its annoying. I don't care how old you are, if you do something then you are accountable for your actions, even good actions.

Now, don't think I'm trying to get on your case. Swords here... I don't know why he went on that rant at you.

It would be super cool if you had a nice additive blending particle system, I think it would make the game a lot more immersive (if that's even a word..) Smiley

Great progress. Im glad you made it so that you can continue a level if you die.. on the earlier version that just made me quit, but now there is enough incentive to keep playing through to the end. if you could iron out that corner collision bug it would make a big difference cos thats probably the most visible issue now. also, it doesnt seem that you can quite jump 2 blocks high, even though you have to in several places.. you just have to get yourself stuck in the corner and mash the keys until you glitch high enough to get up lol.

just got to the end without dieing and got 33 gold. it seems on level 2 there is an unavoidable gas cloud. and level 2 and 3 both have a few items which are unreachable. i dont know what happened to the boss just now, but i fired a few shots while walking to the right and he must have died before coming onto the screen cos i jumped to the exit room without seeing him.
