WHO WE ARE

We are Clocktower Games and we are a recently established team of programmers, artists, designers and composers with significant past experience in game development. This is our first project as a team.

WHAT WE NEED

We require coders fluent in Java (minimum several years experience) to assist our lead coder (12 years experience). Experience developing games with the Slick2D game engine will also be highly regarded but not necessary. As a team member you will be collaborating with our lead on programming tasks as well as providing your own creative input into the design of the game under the hood.

We are using the Tiled map editor to construct our levels.

ABOUT OUR GAME

Our game is a classic singleplayer 2D jump-and-run platformer similar to such games as Mario, Sonic, Megaman and Commander Keen. High production values is one of our key features and we are aiming for a fun, light-hearted feel for audiences young and old. We are ultimately aiming to distil the main strengths of the best platformers of the past into our game.

During the game the player character will fight and manoeuvre his way through a range of colourful environments from tropical beaches to jungles and mountain landscapes using an arsenal of weapons and power ups over the course of a fully detailed campaign of 25+ levels. Along the way he will meet a range of characters to help him on his journey and help tell a tale of action and adventure.

OUR AIM WITH THIS PROJECT

While we make the disclaimer that this is a hobbyist project initially, we fully intend for a commercial release onto a range of platforms (including Steam, OSX and Linux among others). In the event that we experience success with this game, those who contribute will certainly be compensated (determined by the amount of work each person has contributed).

CONTACT US

We are fully dedicated to this project and are determined to see it through to completion.

Can you tell us a bit more about your team? I googled Clocktower games, and could not find anything.

I am trying to join their team, and they seem like a good group of people who are dedicated to what they do.

I emailed them, what makes you say they are a good group of people?
I cant find any info either.

Just FYI: the "Clock Tower" games were a well known Japanese horror game series and "Clocktower Games" is a New Zealand indy game developer (now called Aero).  Your chosen name won't Google well and potentially might have legal issues.

I skyped them and they sound very mature and dedicated to their game. And they have a relatively large team!

You don't need to tell the government anything when working privately and under the table.

But that's not fair. I can't get a bank account even to get paid.

You can set up a paypal, but it'll be useless without a bank account.

You couldn't get one in India. The indian version of the site requires me to give me my Aadhar number which proves my age. Enough of diversion, can we get back to the topic of the thread?

What im feeling here is that opiop65 is actually the same as Clocktower Games.
For a jump-an run fame, you wont need a team, its easy for one person to make something like mario.

Is there a website / whatever to see what you have done so far?
I don't think that's a way to attract good prorgammers.

Sorry, what? I just wanted to work on a group project for once. I know I wouldn't need a team, but its nice once in a while to code with others. This was my perfect opportunity.

I'm wary of OP here since Clocktower Games doesn't give me anything on google and they mentioned using Slick.......a dead library.....

I'm more wary that they haven't replied to this thread at all despite it garnering so much attention around here, as well as not having anything to show in their initial post.

Hard to tell if someone is professional without a logo, website, a video, any concept art, etc. Just a generic game description and a claim of coding experience.

If they provided at least a little bit more info it might be more appealing, but that may just be my perspective.

Hi there I'm Sean and I'm the lead designer of Tortuga Island. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.

For those asking for to look at media we currently are unable to show any content publicly as we are still in the process of organising certain contracts. It is not ideal, but it should not be for long.

However we will be launching a website soon including a dev blog where our developers will be posting status updates and showing samples of art, music and other information. We are in this process now and I will keep you updated

You are quite right on both points. We are aiming for high production values (art, music, overall design) with this game as a point of difference from other platformers out there so there's quite a bit of work. We also require people to be over 18 so that people are able to sign contracts for themselves. This should have been made clear in the initial post.

Just FYI: the "Clock Tower" games were a well known Japanese horror game series and "Clocktower Games" is a New Zealand indy game developer (now called Aero).  Your chosen name won't Google well and potentially might have legal issues.

This is true and Clocktower games is actually a transitional name until legal contracts have been finalised.

I'm wary of OP here since Clocktower Games doesn't give me anything on google and they mentioned using Slick.......a dead library.....

Slick2d is what suits our needs best so we decided to use it. It's not a dead library. It's simply being maintained by different people.

I believe you have received a reply now. I think it may have been overlooked initially

Hopefully this answers all outstanding questions and apologies to those who do not meet the age requirement but unfortunately it is not viable for us to be recruiting those who cannot sign for themselves.

Regards

Sean
