I am new to libGDX and would like to get into learning it. I've used slick2d in the past, but want to try libGDX now since slick2d is pretty much a dead API.

Any tips or suggestions?

Yep. The wiki is pretty much the place to go. I would suggest going through the starter game on there to get a feel for how a libGDx application runs, what certain classes do what, etc… Also, having a knowledge of how OpenGL works really helps.

You might also wanna take a look at this dev blog : There are some JARs that can be useful, especially the LibGDX Project Setup if you're a beginner.

I'm the author of the book "Learning Libgdx Game Development".
It describes and explains a complete game development cycle from start to finish.

You can find more information about it here:

It should be a problem on any forum. You shouldn't shamelessly self promote on a few month old thread, and its even your first post.

@geno I have no problem with you promoting your book, as long as you truly believe it will help newbies. Just don't do it on an old thread.

@Jimmt: Ok. And yes, I'm confident that it will help newbies.  Cool

So... I'd post the same text again but in a new thread this time. I didn't mean to upset anyone here, sorry. Wink
