Hi guys,

anyone  have experience or comments for an online 3D game on a mobile device.

Im new to j2me but not new to java or 3D graphics.

Im currently looking at a product called "swerve"
form a company called superscape. It seems quite impressive but I havent heard of it being used yet.

We'd like to probably develop for the new nokia n-gage device.

If anyone has tips, links, experience with 3D j2me gaming
Id enjoy chatting to y'all

Superscape have a game shipping with the latest IPAQ called pocket ttwhich is a moto GP style game ( for screenshots etc. THQ & superscape will have a finished version of a 3d Asteroids game in the very near future. Cybiko have also teamed up with Superscape to develop a suite of games for mobile devices as well.

I don't have much to say regarding 3D for j2me, but having worked alot with MIDP phones I have to say I wish they'd worry more about getting the basic graphics stuff right before going on to 3D.

That said, for most phones it doesn't matter how good the API.  It's a small screen not suited to much 3D... classic games however, platform games, side scrollers.  That's where I feel the first push should be.

Ive looked at superscape, from the whitepaper its pretty impressive.

unfortunately, its difficult to get hold of any code, liceneses.
I think they have a tight tie in with THQ or something.

thanks a lot for the comments-  I appreciate it
Im really excited to getting into the 3D mobile world.

From feedback many have the opinion mobile is not mature enought yet, to focus on 3D. Ive too little experience to tell, but I hope we can find something that will work

Hi all. Dunno if I can be much useful.
Check out this simple 3D Engine for Nokia devices that features real-time backface culling, light shading and z-ordering.

You can find it at for both download and OTA.

It's just a beta release of a bigger project that will include a simple tool to add .OBJ-like files to render various shapes. All the project is going to be open-source, so every comment will be mostly appreciated.
