Why don't you just try it yourself before asking? Takes like 5 minutes to install/setup, and it's free...
Wow wow wait, you told him to install github windows application? use CLI! Can't hurt, it includes a shell anyways...

I installed the Github application a while ago, and it stopped working and I ended up using the shell anyway. Then I got sick of it and decided not to be open-source.

Don't let a tool get in your way! Tame it! OT: The only way to monetize your code (code, not product) is by working as programmer. I mean, what else? a fast food brand with link on your comment?

No, it wasn't Github that drove me away from open-source.
I gave up on open-sourcing my code because it was a waste of my time that could be spent coding.
Github drove me away from Github. It was a waste of my time that could be spent coding.
I keep my source more or less undisclosed, but I'm happy to give away parts of it, and am working on some 'pure LWJGL' tutorials for beginners in my spare, spare, spare time.
There's no point in a novice sharing their code with the world anyway. It would be a waste of my/other peoples' time that could be spent coding.

Just because you use github doesn't mean you have to make your project(s) open-source. I use it for versioning, and potential team collaboration in the future.

If you want your project non-OSS but have remote backup and versioning, you can use bitbucket and it's still git.

The CLI is an abomination. Use SmartGit.

how exactly would that work? can people just sign up and write whatever they want?
Well, that depends on which provider you use. Tumblr: Posts need to be approved by the admin before being published. Wordpress: Has enough functionality that you can protect against spam while not punishing good people. Blogspot: Don't think blogspot support multi-authoring. Can someone confirm? i set up a wordpress site and you need to add authors in manually this might not work unless you know how to let them in automaticly

I'm just going to say it, I wouldn't recommend doing this if you don't have much game programming experience or don't have much website design/admin/etc. experience.

I love your idea, but it just does not have a place in the JGO. And plus, if it is open source, what's to stop someone from modding it to work without ads? You should code this exclusively, maybe recruit a few people, and then publish it. But people here are hardcore. In my opinion, I would rather take pride in knowing I programmed my own framework than some other person. I would feel lazy, unoriginal, and unchallenged. Just take this idea, edit it up a bit, snip, paste, and it should work. If you do do this, just please, please please please, for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT MAKE IT MORE THAN 1$ This is for a variety of reasons: More people will buy if it is cheap, than if it were more, and come on, that kind of work is done cheaply.
Again, I love your idea, just polish it up.

Are you kidding me? You've barely been on this forum. You have no idea what belongs on this forum and what doesn't. This tool would be great for people who want to casually code games together. Who cares if someone else helped on the framework, sometimes coding with others is more fun and brings the best out in people. Just because you feel lazy doesn't mean others don't enjoy it.

well its good to know people are still interested in this ... i already have the code for a beta site ready but its still a long way from a polished site it lacks security and anti spam(capatcha number things)
right now all it is is just a site where you submit info and search for info ... i wanted it to have accounts and profiles and all that stuff so people know who submitted what its supposedly easier to make all this with drupal
and just for the record i was actually planning on making this a free service

more sales
Don't mean to be a dick, but sales means : The exchange of a commodity for money; the action of selling something. But in all honesty, I am happy that you are gaining progress. Keep us updated!

i was probably talking about sales for people makeing games not the site itself but i might be wrong why dont u show me the rest of the quote EDIT** heres the rest of the quote and yea i was talking about sales people would make from advertising their game on the site or from helping make an open source game in return is a place to advertise their game for free more exposure for your game = more sales plain and simple
just so u dont get confused i did change the "idea" a few times a bit...the plan was simple, people share code, but all the other mumbo jumbo was ideas of how to encourage people to submit code like if they make a game. they need to advertise the game, so there would be a system in place for them to advertise their game to a target audience all free of charge but you have to advertise the advertising network before u can advertise anything with it so its not something that can be built right away ... its possible but takes time to get those people together and connected for it to be effective

Protip: keep it simple if you want to inform people about their business model. Your explanations are confusing me So you plan to embed your own advert system into your code sharing site?
