Hi. How to calculate the volume of this shape (the bottom one). Is this correct?

Well from my view this is simple.
I hope i can explain it a bit (nope i cant):

1/2 + (1/2 * 1/2) = 3/4

That would make:
vol = 3/4 h

you were right in the first place the answer is: 2/3h

here is how you can calculate it:
the missing space from the cuboid (i² * h) can be seen as two unregular Tetrahedron.
the volume of a Tetrahedron is (h * A / 3) were a is the bottom area.

so the missing volume of the two Tetrahedron is := 2 * (i²/2 * h) / 3

and the volume of your body := i² * h - 2 * (i²/2 * h) / 3 = i² * h * (1 - 1/3) = 2/3 * i² * h

Ok ty for that...that looks more like how I tried it.

I calculated it using 2x. Rectangle pyramids. But I was unsure if the fact that the centre was offset affected the formula of 1/3 x base x height.

PS I hope no one get another different answer!

yes using a pyramid is a lot easier, I always think to complex

with the top being off center, it is the same as with the area of triangles

It's similar to calculus. We're just learning how to do problems like these with derivatives and some other math stuff that I don't know the proper names for. An example of a question that we do would be "A can is to be made to hold a liter of oil. Find the radius of the can that will minimize the cost of the metal to make the can. (Take 1L = 1000cm3)", we also do perimeter, area, volume, etc...
