I already knew UWM. But thanks for the 2nd link. That's a really lovely song. I will listen to more songs of that album for sure.

I'm grooving now to the instrumental tracks on Safe as Milk by Captain Beefheart (Dirty Blue Gene right now). He's otherwise a bit too challenging to be background music.

For coding I prefer a fairly quiet environment.

Usually silence, but if I do listen music it's usually over-sensitive & depressed music such as Tom McRae, Saybia, or Jeff Buckley. I love swallowing in self-pity Or just singing along while coding.

@up - true I am usually coding in silence, but sometimes I am coding while listening to favourite music (power/thrash/groove/death metal), too.

Holy Flying Poop! Infected Mushroom is awesome! Thanks for the suggestion! I can recommend the B-side of "Infected Mushroom - Converting Vegetarians" and a few on the A-side. A lot of the old stuff is amazing, though I think its crudeness might go unappreciated for most of the people who weren't listening in the era it was produced. Like "Release Me", per example. Also, Shpongle is really, really good! Mostly instrumental awesomeness, with only very few lyrics in assorted languages. Try these by him: "Once Upon The Sea Of Blissful Awareness", "Around The World In A Tea Daze", "Dorset Perception", "Divine Moments Of Truth", "Behind Closed Eyelids", "Flute Fruit" and "Shpongle Falls". Otherwise I watch (and frequently rewind) "Criminal Minds" on my TV, or listen to some of my own tracks. I think because I've worked at them for long stretches of time, I've become immune to the lyrics in them.

Yes. Good stuff. Not too many people know that was like the first album appearance by Ry Cooder. Some fun long jams on other albums, too. But "Trout Mask Replica" -- forget it. That is anti-programming music.

For me, I *have* to have *non-lyrical* music, lyrics throw me off when I read anything.
I mostly prefer electronica, dubstep, and a little classical. I would love to get some suggestions for more artists in those (and other genres) too!

For all those guys liking non-lyrical music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXHnVsPbDkIThe video to the song is not the original, I think... Also, the band's name is "pianochocolate" and the album is "Aquarell" and the name of the song is "River song". It's somehow sad music, but It's pretty enjoyable for me

It's Russia group. Gonna try it.
I always wondering, is listening from youtube (not their official channel) legal or same as downloading one?

I have a feeling that it's not up to you to choose that. If it's illegal, it'll get taken down sooner or later. So listen while it's legal.

Sometimes lyrics in another language are like music, not as distracting as English lyrics. Along those lines, this is a 'slow' song by a Polish Goth group. I think it is a real gem, very elegantly done. I think it is a fan posting. I'm not sure, but a lot of the photos are of the lead singer. Band: Moonlight, SongTitle: Ergo Sum http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rL9-KzLzYCo&feature=plcpAnother gem (has lyrics but they don't distract), imho: Band: Polvo, SongTitle: Beggar's Bowl The group is from North Carolina. The music is hypnotic enough that I barely hear the words at all. Maybe it has to do with the mix. I especially like the build at the end. I still don't know what the lyrics are and possibly don't want to know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InYNhLIfC2o&feature=plcpWorks for me, for programming.

I listen to a song called "boom boom boom boom boom"... I think, it's always on repeat and it's what they call "electronic music". But I like it, simple and gets me booming.
