Hey there! I'm a newb Java Programmer, AnimayHound. I'm based in Southern CA, USA. I was inspired to take on Java after noticing the huge success of popular indie sandbox game, Minecraft. Now, I'm going to continue to learn programming (I hardly know programming, but I made it through the activation! Had to create a program to calculate the values.) and try to create projects. Funny that I'm still in middle school (7th) and trying to learn something complex, like Java, that uses math that I have only "scratched" on. Please give me tutorials while I continue to decompile a book I found; Java All-In-One for Dummies. (Written by Doug Lowe) This has proven to be very helpful. Only $39.99 in the US, and it happens to be all 9 books of Java for Dummies by Doug Lowe. Check it out if you are like me. Until you see my projects, later!

Minecraft brought me into Java as well.  :)

My biggest inspiration for programming is playing other games followed by:

  • I WISH I COULD DO THIS BETTER!!
  • (goes away and learns how to do it better)
  • (makes epic game)
  • I CAN DO THIS BETTER!!

And that is how I get things done for now.

When I get older it will become:

  • I WISH I COULD DO THIS BETTER!!
  • (goes away and learns how to do it better)
  • (makes epic game)
  • I CAN DO THIS BETTER!!
  • ???
  • PROFIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could one teach me the ways of Java? I'm already using a book, but would like some extra help!

Teach yourself through screwing around
What am I saying? I've picked up a lot of bad habits not using any tutorials for anything.

I'm tired of working for someone else.

Pick an ambitious project and use Google whenever you have a problem. I know that sounds over simplified, and trust me... you will bang your head against a desk multiple times in the process... but you'll learn a ton in the process.

Secondly... make sure you love the project and enjoy working on it. Without that, you won't have the drive to push you to the end.

Good luck, and welcome to JGO Smiley
