Find potential long term pixel artist recommendations

I was curious if anyone had any places they would recommend going to find a 'for hire' freelance pixel/gamesprite artist?

I wanted to hopefully avoid the bigger 'factory production' style places because I would be interested actually finding and developing a longer term relationship with said artist. (Although I will take those recommendations as well)

I've poked around a bit on some misc art/pixelart/sprite sites, deviant art, and other places.

I've even tried contacting a variety and often times they either are no longer in freelance or some other conflicting issue.

I actually came here from the forum in question, and it has a section requesting job applications and volunteer work. its a great mrthod and there are many wonderful artists there.
