27! Commonly known as a borderline old fart. May I recommend staying away from things you spray into your arms or snort up your nose? Oh, and GHB, E and shrooms, too. They will ruin your brain. So will alcohol, only at a slower rate. I've seen it all happen to various friends. I'm super duper cereal. Don't let it happen to you. It's too bad that people suffering from these side effects, do not realize it. The brain is hardly able to evaluate its own performance. That's also the reason everybody deems himself smart enough (or above average intelligent., but that's another story).

17, 3 months till I am 18 though Started programming in 2010 when my computer class begun to show the super basics of programming with visual basic, already wanted to do programming before doing visual basic but it kicked me off and wanted me to learn. 2011 I attempted to mod minecraft, started to understand Java a little bit. Not to far into 2011 I got offered by my teacher to do a pre-uni course in Software Engineering, did the first year of software engineering (the exams and assignments were exactly the same as the uni students, so the course was the same) the good thing about it was it was in Java too, so my basic knowledge helped.

Never done drugs, never smoked, never drank alcohol, well not more than one beer. With alcohol its like, people bring out their stupidest, most dangerous and most senseless sides out. I always thought that - why would I take poison to dim my intellect, when that actually the thing I value most. And I hate alcoholic things, with the exception of like cocktails, but those are available without alcohol (so choose with or without poison?) So I'm quite boring in that sense I guess =P
here is my story of programming(kept short): My father once opened a exe or whatever in notepad and I saw all the ASCII garbage madness, so I asked "whats that stuff?" and he said "its the language of the computer, and people study it at university for years to learn it."(which isn't quite accurate of course, but its very much how you would say it simplified I guess) so I was like "wooaa. that. I wanna do that." fast forward to when I was like 12, my friend calls me and says "I know this HTML thing... you can write lines in the notepad and the browser DOES it" and I was like "WHAT? tell me how !", a year later I learned Visual Basic 6...
I like ctomni231' avatar - playing Disgaea 1 now, because its the only one I haven't played before...
and I wanna watch Skyfall - who would know that they would actually come out with a kick ass Bond movie after quantum of solace ?
I wonder if this increases my rambling rating

N.B.This dataset is obviously rather limited to the subset of members that actually filled out their birth date, which might be related to age, and therefore by definition skewed.

It occured to me that the results were heavily biased towards older members, because it included everybody that left JGO ages ago. | Age | Frequency | | 53 | * 1 | | 48 | * 1 | | 44 | * 1 | | 43 | *** 3 | | 42 | ** 2 | | 41 | ******* 7 | | 40 | ** 2 | | 39 | **** 4 | | 38 | ***** 5 | | 37 | ** 2 | | 36 | **** 4 | | 35 | ******* 7 | | 34 | ************* 13 | | 33 | ********** 10 | | 32 | **** 4 | | 31 | **** 4 | | 30 | ** 2 | | 29 | ****** 6 | | 28 | ***** 5 | | 27 | ******* 7 | | 26 | ******** 8 | | 25 | ********* 9 | | 24 | ******* 7 | | 23 | ******* 7 | | 22 | ******* 7 | | 21 | ********** 10 | | 20 | ******* 7 | | 19 | ******** 8 | | 18 | ******* 7 | | 17 | ************ 12 | | 16 | ********* 9 | | 15 | ** 2 | | <15 | ******** 8 |

I'm 17, started programming early last year (almost two years ago).
Before that the only programming related stuff I had done was Lego Mindstorms and a bit of MATLAB when I was learning linear algebra.
Programming is pretty much just a hobby for me, I'm not planning on doing it as a job.

My story of programming: I had always liked technology and I thought I had read somewhere that html was a programming language( it isn't). So I started learning html. After I learnt about that and javascript, I found out about C++ and this cool website I could go on. So I learnt C++. Fast forward to about a month ago. I was trying to mak games with C++, but graphics were a real problem. So I tried to learn java. And then I found this forum and the rest is history.....

You tried making games in C++, learning Java, and making games in Java all in one month? Try slowing down...and what's wrong with graphics in C++?

I found the Lazy Foo tutorials to be really good when I was trying to learn a bit of game programming in c++. The graphics are really aren't difficult with SDL.

I'm 22, deferred from last year uni to work on my own game engine in java. Needless to say, everything is going great, ignoring the fact that we have a dozen game prototypes and none that are ready for launch.
Such is life, started seriously programming at age 17.

I think that the age that matters is how long you have been coding. I have been coding for about..1.5 years? maybe. Funny thing is that when I take into account how long I have been coding compared to others I am not doing too bad. Then add age and I just want to cry.

I'm getting so tired of meaningless units... it reminds me of my mothers' recipe for pancakes: - Don't add too much milk
- Add just enough eggs
- Don't cut back on flour, or it will be sloppy
- Use the mixer and add salt until the mix is about right
- Pour slightly more than usual of the mix in a suitably sized pan
- Heat the pan to the appropriate temperature
Her pancakes always taste better than mine.

Don't dismiss the potential of dimming your intellect. It's temporary anyway. Being smart is not always important, especially in many social interactions. In fact, it can be really annoying to others who end up feeling inferior, even if that was not your intent.

I used to be "interesting" and did all sorts of naughty things with naughty chemicals but now I'm old and boring and don't any more because I don't really like my brain being meddled with any more. I do occasionally enjoy getting completely pissed on cider though. Well, I do live in Somerset. That's what we do here for entertainment. Cas

I code better when under influence of alcohol.
I remember doing a university coding assignment overnight and getting near full marks for it, I don't remember doing the assignment.
Sometimes we have to drown our sorrows, and re motivate... with alcohol.
Sweet sweet beer and vodka
especially vodka...
mm, I better go get some vodka.
