THE best game *of all time*? Wow, that's a difficult one. There's just no way I can name just 1 game. I'll just mention a few games that come to mind and the systems I've played them on, in no particular order:
Damocles (Atari ST) System Shock 2 (PC) Ms. Pacman (arcade) Dungeon Master (Atari ST) Elite (C64) Metal Gear Solid (PC) Journey (PS3) Fallout 3 (PS3) Outrun (arcade) PixelJunk Monsters (PS3, PSP) 3D Monster Maze (ZX81) Nemesis 2 (MSX) SD Snatcher (MSX-2) Doom 2 (PC) Red Alert (PC)
There are probably more that share my #1 spot...

For more recent games, Pokemon Black/White 2. Talk about good design. There are so many amazing NES/SNES games, I can't just name one.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not hitting a dry patch... Fallout Fallout 2 Transport Tycoon Deluxe Mario Kart 64 Oh, if I should name just one: Final Fantasy VII
Yeah, pretty much, IF you HAD to pick ONE. Heheh ^^ I bought this for PC and PS3. The fan-patch for PC, "Tifa's Bootleg", is marvellous, btw. Full-HD resolutions, new models (monsters, NPCs, Avalanche, all of it), improved world textures, improved videos, new menus etc.. I tried to install what they had 4 years ago, but it just wasn't the same. Now it's brilliant! I can highly recommend it. Some people are having trouble with it, but I haven't seen any yet.

I like how I've never heard of/played 99% of the games mentioned in this thread. And I've never played Final Fantasy either haha, but by the looks of it I don't like it

Dude, your forum avatar dates you. Awesome game, I always loved cornering the market on energy and squeezing everyone dry. Heck, I even got to make a reference to it recently in another thread here. Speaking of avatar, I'm replaying Ultima IV right now on my C64 emulator (the PC VGA version may look prettier but it never got the music right). U5 I'll probably play in C128 mode (the C64 version didn't have the memory for the music). U6 is the one I'm not sure of, whether it'll be better on PC or Commodore. Maybe there's an Amiga version, that'll probably be the best one ...

My favourite was playing all 4 characters at once, mining a ton of Smithore, and not selling it until the final month for 255 a pop!

Hands down, my all time favorite game is the Little Big Adventure series ("Relentless" and "Twinsen's Odyssey" in the states) - yes, it's two games (and always the lingering hint of a third), but I count them as one. Bonus points for those of you who see my attempt at a connection with it. In terms of hours put into a game, I'll list these as best as I can recall: - Ultima 7 (part 1 & 2)
- Team Fortress 2
- Warcraft 2
- Ultima III
- Ultima IV
- The classic Infocom text adventures (I'll just lump those together)
- Rastan
- SimCity 2000
- Thief
- Morrowind
I'd like to put Planescape: Torment on here, but I keep running into a crash part way into all the playthroughs I've done with it, in every imaginable configuration I can come up with on modern hardware.

Bigger Games: Ultima Online ( back in the day) **** Portal 1 and 2 Half life series *** Fallout 3 / New Vegas / Skyrim / Oblivion *** Minecraft *** Warcraft 2 L4D (original only) *** Dark Reign 1 ***
Smaller Games: Super Mario World *** Zelda A link to the past (SNES) *** Super Meatboy *** World of Goo Braid!!! yay! Bit Trip Runner (Only this one, I became obsessed) Lode Runner Worms 2 (NOT the newer ones) ***
No particular order.
*** = 100+ hours
I am sure I am forgetting some, but at one point, probably at least 1 week or more, each of those were my 'favorite game of all time' during some point in my life.
