A Wild Awkward New Android User Appeared!

So I just plunged to android phone, first one after using old java phone for so many years (not even symbian!). It's HTC Desire V that catched my heart.

My first impression is "wow typing text is hard now!" However there're some that I want to ask:

1) any one here use same phone?
2) Normally, how long a smartphone battery last with only network turned on? mine is 1650mah and having it live for only two days without playing game is kinda strange for me.
3) Android sure has back button, which seems also works as close button for app too. Is it really close app?
4) plugging it into PC will auto charge it. Do you think it'll shorten battery life (charge for short moment)?

1) Not me - I wish I had an android. Stuck still a few years with iPhone 3GS
2) With 3G/Wifi full use mine runs for 3+ hours (iPhone). I have 2 HTC Wildfire S (Li-Ion 1230 mAh) for work that with full use run for about 3+ hours as well. (full use = active browsing)
3) Back button might invoke the pause() method of your program, either that or pause() and then close() - don't know for sure. Either way pause() is  definitely called (I think).
4) No it doesn't harm the battery at all. Though I've heard myths that the very first time you should squeeze as much power from the battery as possible before recharge. I've had my iPhone for 3+ years with constant on off usb charging for various lengths, no decrease in battery life - still same battery as when bought.

2) They are a lot of articles saying that the batteries are actually the least advanced thing about modern phones...
I micromanage everything and deinstall apps that open automatically in the background, never have wifi/3g enabled unless I actively use it and stuff... one can do a lot of micro managing that can extend battery life from 1 day to 6 or so depending... screen brightness is of course one obvious thing to do - when you first buy them they are as bight as the sun D:

3) It is the closest "normal operation" you get to closing something on android. But because of battery life again, you might want to use a app launcher/manager to kill all background processes

4) I'm sure that time is over with - batteries used to be like that, but it should be fine now

about auto-start BG app, i have google map and soundhond pre-installed. They start auto on start-up. I wonder where I can disable these, beside moving them to SD card.

There are a lot of task manager apps that can control the startup list.  ES Task Manager is one that I use.

Seriously, how annoying is clicking "install"?  Anyway, managing the startup list also requires root.

It's okay if you have a good wireless connection for your phone. Here is not. I prefer the way DLing apk first then transfer it to device. Sadly google says 'no'.

You are similiar to my local operator, which think "16kbps" is a connection. My cable connection is faster, that's why I want to use it for DLing. I also tell my device to leech from laptop's wireless but not everytime I can use it.

Damn, I'd hate to have your carrier ... I might as well have my old nokia 6600 then.  Should still have wifi tho.  Anyway, heck if I know how to get an APK url out of Play.

I checked third party software to grab it, no work. My way now is use Goddamn expensive quota based carrier, DL everthing I need, then switch back to old cheap carrier for twitter/chat/simple browse You lucky, my old one ebfore this is SE K200 .
