Yes, looks very good!
Just any relation to the 3D topic is missing?
What about putting the tree structure (scenegraph) somewhere as a theme to the icon? The coffee cup already has a triangle outline, as does the tree.....

About the 3D topic, I think it doesn't has to be on this logo since it can be used as an icon. We can create other bigger banners/buttons with "Xith3D" and the snake just like Sun's Java logo.
Btw, I know nothing about copyrights or licenses but is it allowed to have a logo such as this one very looking like the java one (same colors, same patterns, ...)??

Well it uses the same colours since its basically a cut and paste job from the coffee cup But assuming it was redrawn then i wouldn't see a problem - no-ones going to mistake a snake for a coffee cup. Might be an idea to change the colours, invert them perhaps?

Can you change the head of the snake a litte, for instance make it a bit "rounder" and put a black point (eye) in it?
I think oNyx' logo with color, shading and the "3D" somewhere in there isn't bad either.

[...]oNxy basic logo IMHO is too much a font than a logo.[...] Well yea it's a writing (Schriftzug?). That can be a logo too (eg Coca Cola). However, I build it from scratch and hadn't used any fonts or so :> I'll try some of the suggestions for the "3D" part

oNyx's logo's pretty cool although if I look at from particular angles it soft of looks like a graffiti signature.
Jens, that logo's good too but I agree that the 'i' 't' 'h' look out of place.
A simple with few colours would be best IMHO - one that you can invert to a good white-only format. A logo that looks good even when it's small and mono-coloured, but can also look cool when it's large and on xith.org.
I'd really like to see some more along the snake idea (with the word Xith3D). Maybe the letters Xith3D could some how be the markings of the snake?
I think a vote for the "official" logo would be the best way to choose the most popular one.
Will.

I like the snake best so far. Remember it is a logo.. it doesn't have to spell out the project name any more that a coffee cup spells out the word Java or a penguin spells out Linux. That being said I'm not sure there is much of a connection between the snake and the concept of a 3D scene graph API... Bit the word Xith does sort of sound like the hissing of a snake.. and that's good enough for me . Keeping the logo simple will accomplish the same goals as the 'new' Java logo. It will be easier to render and recognize in multiple sizes, and it looks clean. Some minor changes could be made to the Snake.. maybe a bit of a cobra hood effect. (Needs a bit of definition in the head like it says above, but I wouldn't try for detail like the eye.)

What about surrounding the X with "i", "t", "h" and "3D", where the "3D" is somewhat emphasized? Just made an image with GIMP: That's a nice idea! Looks good, not so ... abstract like many computer related logos, but like from an ancient book. :-)

heh, how about a parody on the Java coffee cup, in snake form? ;D The connection to the Java logo I think is a good idea.

Here is one from dalow: It's a temporary result of a conceptual discussion over at the tattered minds board(german). I thought it would be a good idea to start a spin-off thread in a artist-board I guess there will be other drafts soon.

Thx Jen Well I tried to do something which looks like Orangy Tang icon (the snake part). The tree is for the scenegraph. It is to big to be a button and probably to big for a banner but what I tried was to get a basis of what we want. I didn't know where to implement the "Xith3D" so I put it on the leaf of the tree but it doesn't seem so good. It's just a draft so comments/ideas are welcome DZ

Looks good A large image such as that is what we need for xith.org - and I'm sure you could work another smaller image with the snake. An invertable grayscale, transparent image I think is needed too (for use along side the OpenGL and Java coffee cup ones). Will.

From the right-now-not-that-active-cuz-there-was-a-relaunch tattered minds board (tattered.de). Started a spinoff thread there The last 3 images, I'd posted, are from that thread... maybe we get some more entries :>

Now that one I really like. The boxes almost imply a kinda hiearchial tree structure and could be used alone as the Xith "tag".
Not quite sure on the colors.. but that really is mint.

I dunno - I see that same kind of "box" design everywhere thesedays. I reakon a mascot is what we need - like the snake. One that can look professional and slick but has character.

I like the snake too. The logo is simple and elegant, not too detailed and cluttered. And a mascot would be cool. If Linux can have Tux the penguin Xith 3D can have Jake the Snake... or Sammy Serpent, or Xithy, or maybe we can call it a Viper... "Xith Viper" sounds cool. You realize if Xith gets a mascot then we have to do this all over again to name it How soon until we start a poll?

In that case I think we need to open a little longer, a get Onyx to specify a snake to the arty types over on the other board.
I think its a good idea to get some external (outside of the 3D programming world) ideas.
