What do you do your coding on? I mostly use a beat up old Dell Studio 15 laptop with a 2GHz Pentium dual core and a Radeon 3450M, although it is painful and only supports GLSL 1.5.
My other machine is a linux box with a 1.8Ghz Pentium dual core and a much better GeForce 430. I would code on that more but then I would be unsociable and ignore my family. If I could put my version control 'in the cloud' somewhere I could switch between the two machines more easily...
It would be nice to have more powerful machines, but if my games run on my computers, they can probably run anywhere!

I use this computer that I just got recently. Works like a charm. ZT Core i7-2600 Desktop 2GB GeForce GT430 Graphics 16 GB RAM along with a 25" ASUS HDMI monitor. I spend a lot of time on here coding. Not pricey at all... I would code on that more but then I would be unsociable and ignore my family.
I set aside quite a bit of time to spend with my family because they need the support.

Ha ha. I may not have the fastest rig, but I think I've got the cheapest: HP DC7700 box - free. New HDD - 60 euros. GT430 - 60 euros. USB wifi - 14 euros.

I have never bought a PC off the shelf, always build it myself. QuadCore AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition 955, 3215 MHz Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 v2 NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 AND a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS, 3 screen after all... 4GB RAM ~ 1,6 TB HDD, not nearly enough And a whiteboard =D Note that the actual PC is not the ugly one beneath but the one to the right, with the PS2 and Dreamcast on top

I try to use crappy machines with low end hardware: AMD Sempron 2600+ 2 GB RAM NVIDIA 7600 GT
I sometimes replace the last one by my old ATI Radeon 9250 Pro. I still have a Celeron 700 Mhz 256 MB RAM for my tests.

I use a laptop. I hate laptops, but I've been homeless/traveling for about 13 months. I wanted to lug around my desktop and 30" monitor, but it wasn't feasible, so I got an Alienware M18x. It is basically a (sort of) mobile desktop, it plus the power supply weighs about the same. I have a special backpack to carry it around. Screen is 18.4", 1920x1080. CPU is an Intel i7-2920XM, 4 cores, 8 threads, 2.5ghz boosts to 3.5ghz. It has 16GB RAM (8GB was free because the first laptop they sent was DOA). There are two Radeon HD 6990M cards, but I only have one enabled since using both seems to cause various artifacts. Even one runs BF3 well and Tribes Ascend on max. It has some built in Intel graphics for running on battery power while on a train/plane. Even then it only gets maybe 3 hours of battery life. It has Kilpsch stereo speakers plus a mini subwoofer built in. I got it with a 750GB HDD and I added a 256GB SSD for the OS and apps (was way cheaper than buy an SSD from Dell). I got the optional 60ghz Wireless HD so I can stream HD to a TV, but I haven't used it yet. The plan is to use the laptop as the source for a TV or projector someday.

OS: Vista Home Premium 64bit
I'm not an expert but I believe even in Kindergarten your aunties tell you that Vista is a terrible OS I don't really like Linux as a dekstop OS, I've tried it, and ruined a few installations by installing gfx drivers. Having said that: Vista is bad, but good enough. Win7 is better, but not worth the reinstall. Why would I throw >$100 at a new license when I'm not running into any significant problems.

my main computer is: (2 years 4 months old approximately) Windows 7 12GB ram NVIDIA Geforce GTS 250 (GB) intel 2.66GHz quad core 1tb hdd
My mac is: (4 months old) 27" monitor 3.4ghz i7 quad core (im not sure if its right, a app I downloaded said its 8 cores) I cant get onto the apple store so cant find the exact graphics card, but its a AMD HD6970 (2gb)? (taking a guess at the numbers, cant remember). 8GB ram
and if anyone knows about mac, my mac you can tell is basically way better then my windows, but minecraft, the only really game I have installed on it, wont go past 60fps, is there a cap on macs? my friends macbook gets to 100fps+ and his is much older then mine (my mac is about 4 months old).

Yeah my dev rig is also my (+- 1.5 year old) gaming rig, so its would be way overpowered to do proper game development on - if I didn't only do retro remake stuff and don't need much under any circumstance The only thing I fight with is the one thing you wouldn't really consider - the keyboard. I try to adjust it to my programming needs which is not as simple as it sounds. I need a keyboard that has keys that give a noticable response, be spaced properly so you don't mash on two keys at once by accident and ALSO needs to be silent enough that I don't bother my girlfriend with hundreds of clickety clicks; yet at the same time they must not be too resistant because that would tire the hands too quickly. I've gone through a few options now and so far neither Logitech nor Microsoft has been able to give me what I need... the best keyboard is the one I have at work - effing Dell. Perfection for programming that one. but minecraft, the only really game I have installed on it, wont go past 60fps, is there a cap on macs?
Not really, MC just doesn't go so high on many systems, regardless of their architecture. Although I must say that since the latest versions with the new world structure, the game is very smooth at least for me (once the chunks are loaded of course).

Oh... nice conversation here @ra4king: You got a 5GHz processor? Okey... thats fine How much FPS do you get in Minecraft? It's kind of super cpu heavy. My record: 190 fps, my friends record (with a much better pc ): 880 fps. Can you beat that? (without OptiFine btw...)

I'm having a hard time finding the perfect keyboard too. You'll be amazed by the amount of dirt-stupid designs.
I want the Enter key to be 2 rows high I want the Backspace key to be 2 keys wide I want an empty row between ArrowUp and End I don't want a Shutdown key next to Escape I want both shift keys to be 3 keys wide I want the function keys to have the same shape as normal keys
Sounds reasonable, right? I couldn't find it...

Indeed, keyboard layout is the first filter I didn't even mention; but I'm willing to make some sacrifices there just to have a keyboard with good response. I'm now stuck with a stupid Microsoft keyboard (a mistake I'm not making again). The design is so retarded I keep opening up windows live mail in stead of mashing escape. When I do mash escape I don't really notice it because the key, like all the function and shortcut keys next to / above it, for some idiotic reason is a lot flatter and doesn't "click" like the regular keys :/ so yeah I'd add to that list: a keyboard without idiotic shortcut keys.
