Hi zeroone, will you be entering this year?
I like to see more of your projects.

I added one new rule, really just for me to be on the safe side of things.

Quote
10. Games that break copyright, e.g. clones, will be removed and disqualified if the copyright holder demands it.
http://java4k.com/index.php?action=view&page=rulesjudg

Maybe it's too harshly worded. It's only happened a couple of times, and still the games didn't break any rules...so I kinda felt bad about it. But with this rule it's "at your own risk" making an similar clone of the original. Ok Smiley

9. Must not be identical to a game submitted previously.
it's quite hard to search for submitted identical entry since titles don't describe all. I'm working on remake so any tips?

I think the idea is you don't just submit something you entered in a previous year. If you're starting from scratch you're probably fine.

So it means to not "identical to my previous submit, not to other's submits" right? because on remake there's chance ppl already made one before you.

Identical in this case means same code, same visuals, same mechanics (at least I think it does). There's been several tetris clones, that's not usually a problem - they tend to be different implementations.

I missed all of the 2011 season so I don't have feedback specific to then.

I like the competition format, I don't think there need to be changes like categories or anything.  I think the site could use a minor change, in having the actual game applet hidden by default (for instance the game starts as a screenshot and becomes an applet when clicked) - this is because many of the games use a very CPU-heavy timing loop, and it would be nice to be able to keep a tab open for a specific game without eating your computer.

Originality is a problem, but not one that should be approached in the rules.  We should attempt to tackle it as a community, by doing our best to rise above the easy concepts and encouraging others to do the same.  I, for one, will always do an original IP with my games.  It makes our competition look better, so our games get more players and our community gets more competitors.  Or, for a more utilitarian argument - different IPs are better suited to different budgets, platforms, and constraints.  No existing IP has been optimized to be put in four kilobytes of java, but your own IP can be.

I'm looking forward to this year's competition!

I logged in and submitted a game, then I saw in my games menu and looked "no" in approved value. Does it mean "not yet" or "no get out of here"?

Don't worry, it just means "not yet". In a few hours, the later tomorrow I guess, appel will have checked and approved it. Or if there is any problem with it, he will have personally emailed you about it.

What is your game about ? You may already open a topic on it here to answer me.

I manually check all games before publishing. "No" simply means I haven't checked and approved yet.

With 2 weeks left in the competition, could the moderators of JGO put out a call on the main page for judges?  Some prior competitions had 6 or more judges.

Also, how about updating the Wikipedia article?
