OK, I'm impressed! But... isn't that logo a bit small? (I had to find something - I hate being proved wrong!) What about a logo contest?

Nice with a new design! But perhaps the "Last post" and what time it was posted could be in a less dominant colour, compared to the topic name?

I think I'm in a majority of 1, I don't like the new design.
It's nice, but it doesn't seem any better (just different). I also think it looks more like a generic forum them the old one.

I like the style, but I think the colours could be changed a bit. For example the light blue could perhaps be a bit darker, now its hard to read the white text on top of it.

I do realize there is no way to please everybody. I also do realize that anything can be improved.
There is quite an investment in the current theme, as I made it almost from scratch, to 'feel like jgo', and made a lot of tweaks in the functionality, which sadly are not properly separated from the layout/view/html (whatever you prefer to name it) - and I have to blame SMF for that: its PHP code and overall design is a nightmare.
We cannot simply swap in a new theme and expect to keep all functionality and modifications I added over the last two months.
I will (ofcourse) fix a lot of issues with the current theme, like the color of text vs. background, and replace some background images like the horizontal gradients still displayed on some parts of the forum, which are kinda... ugly.

I would prefer something else then just a special font with effect, no ? (also maybe there is something to do with "JGO")

I couldn't resist doodling a logo. (Yes, I know I have no artistic talent. But the concept amused me.) Simon

If we want a proper logo (i.e. not just font) we could try these guys to get it done professionally (I assume nobody on here has the time/skills to do this). They did my bullsquared logo in a few days, gave me 4 designs to pick from etc. Its $149.. I don't mind paying 30-40 bucks if we get 4-5+ volunteers to contribute too. If there is enough interest (and nobody provides a cool logo by Jan 1st), I dont mind starting a thread to get logo ideas/volunteers etc http://thelogocompany.net/http://thelogocompany.net/internet_logos.htm

ah that's a good idea, don't mind contributing a bit to that too hope they also do a favicon. @princec or markusp maybe one of your art ppl could do it for us? (possibly for a small fee)

My contribution is the monthly bill for hosting and offsite backup Eat your heart out guys, and send me the end result I think it's fair to make it 'just' another entry before the deadline?

My contribution is the monthly bill for hosting and offsite backup Now that we've left the Sun/Oracle mothership, we should probably have a scheme for contributing to running costs. I imagine there's enough of us happy to chip in that the individual costs would be trifling. Have a swanky supporters usergroup or something.

Paypal Riven? And this could apply to fund a professional logo. The issue though is to have concensus on want we want in that logo.

It wasn't a sneaky request for $$ I'm not using dirt cheap hosting, so that we can have reasonable uptime and proper support when things go wrong. For the sake of transparency I'm going to tell you the monthly costs: 0.99 EURO per month for the domainname (that's not very cheap, I know) 23.80 EURO per month for a high end VPS account. 11.90 EURO per month for the remote backup service Total: 36.69 EURO per month You might wonder why I didn't buy a dedicated server: well, the advantage of a high end VPS is that the hoster can't afford to lose N accounts when (for example) the harddisk(s) fails. They have a RAID-5 array of 4 server-class harddisks. There is no way you can rent a dedicated server with such specs in the same price range. Besides that, and I hope you guys agree, the performance is more than 'good enough' and has been for more than 3 years now. I had only 2 reboots in that time that were not initiated by me. As you can see, it's not a lot of money and I can easily afford it. No need to support me in any way Also, I am running indiespot.net and a handful of tiny domains on it for family, and they contribute to the hosting cost. That reminds me to make a new invoice for my dad in MS Word.
