Can we wait with the features requests at least until we're on the new forum - By Friday of this week.
Expected downtime: 2-3 minutes. You can write that down and hold me accountable If anything goes wrong, it'd be my fault. *set your alarm clocks for Friday 17th December 2010 at 00:03am You can write that down and hold me accountable If anything goes wrong, it'd be my fault. * Shapens axe.

Thank you Riven, Chris and Charlie.
My only request is to be able to add members in an ignore list that hides their posts/topics/etc.

Thank you for the good work ChrisM and Riven No! Use Java to do it there, JMC for example but no Flash here please. How about (almost) neither. HTML 5 video tags with Flash (or Cortado at a stretch) backup would seem to be the way forward at the moment, and there's a few players out there to do this automatically now, though it's not that difficult. Or, given the overheads, just allow embedding from elsewhere. And of course, THANKS!!!

Weeee! I want Java syntax highlighting for the code tag! Done. Except in MSIE. I just gave up. Right there. The SMF <> JsSyntaxHighlighter combo is unstable, and I had to write a bunch of javascript to get it working in Firefox and Chrome. MSIE shows the non-highlighted version now, instead of crashing

I don't think that's true anymore. <video> tags with a Flash fallback is the way to go, and it's the way that a lot of open-source and commercial players seem to be going. Remember, there are numerous devices that don't have Flash nowadays (bloody Steve!), not to mention IE is down to less than 50% market share and <video> is coming in IE9. However, all that's OT in a way. The ability to embed video from YouTube, Vimeo, etc. would be more useful, and not put strain on the JGO server.

Just to be absolutely clear: JGO will 'never' host videos.

too bad , but that end the debat... Seconded, but I suppose it's not that hard to link to things! Except in MSIE. I just gave up. Right there. The SMF <> JsSyntaxHighlighter combo is unstable, and I had to write a bunch of javascript to get it working in Firefox and Chrome. MSIE shows the non-highlighted version now, instead of crashing Would http://code.google.com/p/google-code-prettify/ be a possibly more stable solution?

To clearify: what if the forum gets slashdotted. I am not willing to take the risk of paying a 'surprise' bill.
YouTube (and the like) is all we need.
If somebody else would offer hosting for videos, that would be fine by me. I could integrate it to JGO so that the videos would be streamed from your server.
Regarding applets: maybe. It might have a applet-launcher in front of it, which would check whether your JRE is up to date. I don't want the JGO visitors to be infected by drive-by attacks in rogue applets.

Edit: wierd delay and screen flash as the page loads. I imagine there is some PHP somewhere so the highlighting could be done serverside, but then beggers can't be choosers. Edit: Looks like this would be the way to do it serverside: http://pear.php.net/package/Text_HighlighterEdit: Are all the old posts lost? Edit: Nevermind, I see everything now. Wierd. Edit: looks like editing works.

It's just a shortcut to "show all unread posts"
