Shawn, can you explain what "newly released Gaming APIs from Sun" you will be going over in this tutorial?

Very briefly,  this is a 'companion" tutorial for our text releasing at GDC covering every aspect of using Java for game programming that we could fit in.

I will be more specific in later post, but  "newly released Gaming APIs from Sun" you will be going over" is JOGL, JOAL, Jinput and the networking marshalling API if it's adopted by then.  

Beyond this, we will cover GC/JVM and JNI topics.

By "text releasing" do you mean a book? If so, do you have an ISBN for it yet?

OK, i guess i just don't consider enabling technologies like JOGL and JOAL as Gaming API's. But the tutorial sounds interesting enough to attend.

What "networking marshalling API" are you refering to?

We consider the Java Gaming Tech groups APIs sitting at the same place as DirectX in terms of enabling.  DirectX is USUALLY promoted as a gaming technology, though not exclusively.
The ISBN is 1584503262, although the Amazon page has very little info since it's still quite a while until print.

Shawn is referring to an API that I developed in conjunction with the rest of the JSR134 expert group.

The work we accomplished there has gone back into the Game Technology Group.  We are working internally on much further reaching networking technologies.  I'd look around next GDC at a guess (not a promise) to get more info on what we're doing.

I'd love to go to GDC, but it's a little out of my range for traveling (ie, it would cost me a fortune to travel and hotels), so any info on these things that we can get would be nice
