I don't think that comparing the retail AAA marketplace with downloadable indies is really a fair comparison... I've got plenty of evidence to suggest that easy sells though so I'm going to go on that hunch Smiley

Er, no.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games

[edit:]
The games that sell are either easy games where you build something over a long time (sims, nintendogs), or hardcore nerdtastic games (mario, halo, mw).
Wow. I had no idea that the Wii is selling such stupid numbers of games. No wonder they decided just to keep making "Wii XXX" games...

Maybe, release a SuperHardDeluxe addon too? That way, people might even spend more money!

A lot of successful contacts in the industry Wink Actually "easy" is not the universal rule, but it's definitely an important factor in certain sorts of games. This, I think, is one of those games. And the build I have currently is actually quite tricky by the time I get to level 10 because I'm really good at it. Must get the difficulty tuning right!

Do you refer to the build we all played here? For me it was like a walk in the park, right up to level 20.

I tested some of the Farm Frenzy games a while ago, and they use a trophy system (Gold for passing a level quickly, Silver for OK time and then just a pass I think). It works really well for a casual game. Titans is maybe not AS casual, but I think it could work very well. Passing is easy, but if you want gold, then you have to make an effort. Not sure what the criteria for the awards should be for Titans though. Time probably won't do, but maybe a radius that gidrahs aren't allowed to pass, and then no damage to home base?

An idea: How about auto-promotion of towers?

In C&C a unit gets promoted if it has destroyed many enemy units. It gets auto-healing, does more damage. That way, a tower on the front-line can get a well deserved promotion.

How about a medal for: destroying all enemy forces with only mines?  Grin

Hey what about an Environmentally friendly green medal for completing a level without building factories and using up all the resources Smiley

tower promotion sounds like a nice idea, would be cool to see your little infantry men get promotion and ranks too giving them better weaponry and making the player care for them Smiley

I tested it on my five year old dell inspiron 500 with pretty late java and pretty crappy graphics card... (running xp) It was playable. Sometimes it stuttered but overall it worked fine. I am impressed.

I tested it on my 1.5 year old vista with good gaming profile. It worked like a charm.

I have played to level 20 a couple of times, trying to keep as much money as possible. Some things to note:

* If I collect money from a factory right before it is full, it will still be marked with "collect" a couple of seconds later. When I click it, I will collect 10 or 20$ as expected.
* Sometimes the crystals got spawned right onto a spanpoint. No chance of building any defences there.
* While random levels are fun, it encourages "Restart level" until I get a good setup. Maybe it should cost money to restart unless you really try each map.
* F and T only work with completely empty turrest or full factories. When pressing F I want to get to the factory that is the most full, and when pressing T I want to see the most empty turret.
* Factories could try to collect from crystals that few other factories can reach first.
* Permanent build shortcuts. One fast can learn to press BT for building turret for instance. Same for powerups. The 123 shortcuts always change and is not that useful.

Good call on F and T buttons, will implement.

The penalty for restarting a level is medals. (To be seen in the beta). Restart once and you'll never get Gold for it Smiley (Then Silver, then Bronze, then ... some naff ribbon) I couldn't make it cost money because the other reason a level is restarted is because you're being pwned because it's too hard, and losing money is just going to make it harder.

Will see about factories choosing more tricky-to-reach crystals, shouldn't be hard.

Permanent build shortcuts - indeed, a totally new HUD interface - already underway Smiley

Not sure if you want this, but every time I exit the game I am getting an error log dump.  There appears to be no problem because the game doesn't crash on me or anything.

I confess I cannot conceive of any circumstances under which that is possible (and I've never seen it either)... it could just possibly be a display problem though where the screen isn't being updated. Drivers all up-to-date?
