I've deployed my game as an applet. The game uses the Slick SavedState class to persist game data. When the game starts I get this error:
15 Access to persistent storage denied for URL
   at com.sun.jnlp.PersistenceServiceImpl.throwAccessDenied(Unknown Source)
   at com.sun.jnlp.PersistenceServiceImpl.checkAccess(Unknown Source)
   at com.sun.jnlp.PersistenceServiceImpl.create(Unknown Source)
   at org.newdawn.slick.muffin.WebstartMuffin.saveFile(
   at buildergame.GameParams.persistSavedParams(
   at buildergame.GameParams.saveUnlockedLevelsCount(
   at buildergame.GameParams.init(
   at buildergame.BuilderGame.initStatesList(
   at org.newdawn.slick.state.StateBasedGame.init(
   at org.newdawn.slick.AppletGameContainer$Container.initApplet(
   at org.newdawn.slick.AppletGameContainer$ContainerPanel.initGL(
   at org.newdawn.slick.AppletGameContainer$ContainerPanel.start(
   at org.newdawn.slick.AppletGameContainer$

I don't understand why I have this error because 1) it doesn't happen with webstart support and 2) my JNLP file declares the <all-permissions/> tag.

Any idea?

Is it a JNLP applet or using standard applet functionality?  It looks to be an applet sandbox issue to me.

slicks SavedState doesn't support applets, only JWS or Standalone Applications.

not sure applets have a good way or API to store information without requiring further permissions. You can access the JWS api to store information with applets but only if you use a JNLP applet as sunsett mentioned but again this would only work for some people and not everyone.

Since you are using a signed applet you might as well save to the computers hard disk directly.
