viewing copyrighted material question?

im talking about graphics mainly but heres a question...
is it ok to view copyrighted material in a web browser ?
the file has been made available by the way of a url when you go to a website and low and behold you can view the pictures yes?
heres the thing ive been wondering about, those pictures have been copied to a temp directory automaticaly,after all you dont just read the picture data from the file on someones site and store the data in memory do you is this possible? so you COPY it store it on your computer and read it into memory. are all web browsers in breach of copyright as they are designed to copy?
as long as you dont pass on anything you have view personaly thats ok yes?
so if i made a game that simply refers to images stored on the internet and i dont personaly have the images on my computer at all is that ok??
after all im just storing a link that refers to an image.

Legally, depends on your jurisdiction. But it's an awful idea because you're giving someone else the power to hijack your game after you release it.

but then the backguornd image would change for everyone... So they could put some inapropriate/offensive stuff there.

the background would change only for the person that downloads it from where ever they want to download it from ,
either locally or off the net.
i wouldnt give them a chance to upload anything to other peoples computers, maybe my own server but then i would have to moderate every image that was uploaded for inappropriate content, and i dont have the time to do that.
we all have web browsers yes?? dont we all copy and download images by default when we visit web pages no one else sees what we viewed unless they go to the same address yes? my game can have the same feature, i was wondering if copyrighted material could be viewed and stored the same way web browsers do it, i would simply incorperate the temp internet files folder as my resources for the game thats all.

as extra precaution i wouldnt even tell them where they could get there graphics from you would have to manually type the url into a textbox, hey i dont see the images you see when you do a google search do i,i dont even know what address you typed to visit certain types,i dont see there being a problem.

Yeah that's another matter altogether. If the user is finding the content on their own and just using your app to do it there should be no problem for you at all.

well, if the player can nto be botthered than the graphics will not bother him enough for him to care.... Or he just wont play, but you do have to give them decent graphics to start.

btw, be careful the artist might find out....

as long as i supply my own material to start with then the only reason an artist will see thier graphics in the game is if they personally download them. Any ways was just a thought i personally dont think players can be arsed to type a web address in just to change the backgrounds. i will be using text descriptions more than likely instead of graphics till i find a kickass artist to help.
The fighting characters are of me ,my freind(who is a partner in the game) and my wife so no copyright issues there,god i wish i was a good artist then i wouldnt have any problems.

"Sharing" something that leaves an impression is supposedly legal, but wide-spread distribution or commercialization go into the grey area of licensing fees.  If you're doing obvious marketing even through word-of-mouth, then that covers under distribution policies.  The other category should be obvious.  Creative Commons promotes putting artistic things into software as long as you notify the artist and don't make a profit.  ("Donations" or "tips" are a grey area.)

As far as protecting personal artistry, anything on the Internet is considered "promotional."  If a product is an image, a reseller may reduce the size down to 5% or less to "thumb-nail" size only.  For books or derivatives like software, the first "chapter" in a modified and shortened format will usually reside on a server.  Putting a full product on a server without appropriate protection invites theft.  Valuable digital content usually resides on a secondary server under better surveillance.
