falling into the abyss of reality

This has annoyed me for a long time; no idea what the cause is, but my programs list has always included several webstart-installed apps that will not uninstall.

Recently the number of broken uninstallers has increased.
I presume this is a consequence of a recent java update again breaking backward compatibility with older removal scripts.

I'd be interested to see how many other people have this problem.

I'm aware there are certain registry fixing programs that can clean-out broken stuff from this list, though i'm always hesitant to use them as you never know what crap is being left behind.

My current list of broken uninstallers comprises:-

Hunt 4k Bread
Stock Watcher
Swirly Squares
Titan Attacks
Virtual On 4k

I think i've said this before, but, IMO Java apps. should not be getting added to this list anyway - especially so if their removal process is prone to breaking; it looks really unprofessional.

On windows you can go to the control panel and double click Java.
In the Java Control panel click the view button under temporary Internet Files.
You can remove programs and resources in there and the programs should be uninstalled properly.

I have had this problem, and fixed it the way Zoto pointed out.

why does it install??? there is no point. I understand it probably has something to do with caching the files. But still, maybe it oculd ask "do you want to cache the files, it will involve install the program though" but then there is just another dialogue box to scare the crap out of the user reducing java's popularity. But then again, flash doesnt isntall on your computer. Why should java?

This is the main reason I despise webstart. And I honestly wonder how many people stay clear of webstart apps because of it.

I use CCleaner, it can delete broken uninstalls.

Yes, I've had this problem. I can't remember which ones because I've 'fixed' it by removing them with CCleaner.

Years ago I used to wish that Java apps would install like normal apps so you didn't have to find Web Start in order to run them again. I've since changed my mind.

This is one reason why I'll probably not use Web Start again for 4k competitions and the like.
