Incubation period is 24 - 48h, so it is rediculous to only deny access to planes to those that are already feeling ill.

But really, even in the first day (that the mexican goverment made it public) it was already too late.

Under 'normal' circumstances about 30% of the world population will get ill.

No, not at all. But in the game Pandemic, where you play a virus/bacteria/parasite trying to wipe out the human race, the smaller island countries tended to close their ports immediately as soon as you started spreading game, making the game unwinnable.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?

Er... someone should point out that WHO has said no such thing.

Most recent information from their website-

"The Director-General has raised the level of influenza pandemic alert from the current phase 3 to phase 4.

The change to a higher phase of pandemic alert indicates that the likelihood of a pandemic has increased, but not that a pandemic is inevitable."

All innocent joking aside. In ~1918 there was a slow spread that was pretty harmless but very contagious, yet a few months later millions otherwise young and fit adults died in the second sweep.

Considering Europe was in shambles after the first world war in 1918, I don't think it's a very fair comparison.
