I would but would require a costly airline ticket.
Just wondering will these videos will be seen by the public?

Yes, the video would be seen by the public on the channelsun.sun.com site.  The $1500 is to help you with the airfare and hotel.  And don't worry about looking foolish, if that is your concern.  That's what the internet is for!

Free conference pass and $1500 to attend?  This is a no-brainer.
Held in the U.S. is the no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. When you move it to a country which doesn't treat all visitors as suspected terrorists then I might attend.

I can see that being a problem, but prices have being going down lately - be sure to check that.

My problem is obviously that I'm simply not that funny.  Smiley

What a cack! I love that video! You've got a very Napolean Dynamite-syle of humour... very funny.

I have never understood how older (I am teen) people can have so little self esteem!

You have that completely backwards.  The only way you are able to put yourself out there in that manner is if you are confident.  I speak in front of hundreds and thousands of people at a time, all over the world, so I really don't suffer from a lack of self-esteem.  As you get older, you realize that you can't take life too seriously, you need to have fun, and your opinion of yourself matters more than other's opinions of you.  Doubly true of the opinions lobbed from the internet.

As for the rapping, of course it's bad.  Intentionally so.  Growing up in Queens NY during the 1970's and early 80's, I was in the middle of the rap/hip hop movement.  Huge collection of vinyl.  But, no worries, I will not try to start my rap career at this point in my life Wink

I just submitted a video, thought I may as well give it a go. Chris's video was a somewhat inspiring demonstration of how to laugh at yourself so I tried to top that by writing (and singing) a song about Java but failed miserably (you try writing a song about a programming language). My wife videoed the attempt which turned out to be marginally funny so I put that up instead.

I've been following SW_JavaOne09 on Twitter since last week and I won a free pass! There was an announced contest. The only issue is that the expenses aren't covered. I'll ask my company to know if they can pay. Unless the expenses arepaid by Sun?  Roll Eyes Wishful thinking.
