This is really cool, you've nearly got a racing game working!

I think the turning is a little too sudden and the camera should make it's way to be directly behind the car rather than in a weird position when you do a turn.

Nice job!

thanks,

I think the turning is a little too sudden

some others people already told me about that but I am not sure/still doubt that I should really reduce it ? maybe with a better camera movment this will be less annoying ?

Quote
...and the camera should make it's way to be directly behind...

yes you are right, I will update this point.

Quote
You should add a turbo boost

finally this seems to be a good idea, will be updated.

any other suggestions are welcome ?

bugs: there is still a bug on car rotation (when car front is pointing up to the sky) I found the reason and need to patch it. There are also some rendering issue in the 3D engine pointed out by kevglass that I will try to reduce/remove.

NB: maybe I will open a game web site/section (games.dzzd.net) dedicated to java game maybe this one will be the first one Smiley, note that this should not be dedicated to game using 3DzzD and it will also be pointed by another domain name.  I will try to keep quality & compatibilty as the only requierment to be published on it.

I did not have as much time as I would like to,but enought to make some few updates:
- the car bug rotation is now fixed
- lot more gravity
- camera is closer and less high
- car rotation/control should be improved
- I did some try with inside cam but it is not that fun, so I removed it
- A sky has been added

That is a lot of fun!

Are you planning to release it?

Yes, I am currently thinking about a simple gameplay that can make it fully playable, and fixing some issue.

Smiley I will have a look to those models, but maybe I will simply disable upsidedown drive (autoflip car) after few second when it is upsidedown ?

DzzD,

I haven't had much time to play the game but for the time I had I must say that it was quite fun!  Smiley

Works correctly on XP with a crappy nvidia Quadro card at work. I love the sense of speed and physics! It's just right. Do you intend to make the window bigger?

Quite fun now I can see where I'm going. Grin The "race track" level is more interesting to mess around on too. Any chance of a "proper" race track?

My only suggestion would be to make the car handling a little less drifty and make the camera follow a bit more tightly.

Ahh rollcage. The only thing I succeeded in rollcage was driving around tunnel walls to infinity Smiley
One thing that always bothered me was that it's physically imposible to flip a car remaining it's driving direction, since the wheels would then turn backwards...

yup, video option will enable a bigger window as well as switch to JOGL rendering

for sure, as soon as possible

I'm not really sure, but the handling feels a little to slippy and "on ice" to me. But I'm not sure what you'd adjust. It might be the relatively long duration of accelerating - maybe make acceleration kick in quicker but fall off quicker too?

ha ok maybe it is related to turn speed ? the wheels take some time to be fully turned. if you dont move the car (and camera is not behind) and turn you can see wheels turning slowly maybe this speed is too slow, that's it , no?

Cool, little game.
But you might want to offer to respawn. I fell of the edge a number of times heh.
I'm finding the game sometimes freezes for 1 sec.
Oh and hard to reverse, spins out a lot even at a slow speed.
Maybe a auto flip if the car is on its back.

Would be very cool game to have multiplayer  Smiley

I really like the demo. Reminds me of Rush for those who have played it. The controls feel like they turn too quickly. I think the game looks very good not sure if its possible but I think it would only be better at a higher resolution. Best of luck making a game out of this demo. highly anticipated!

It should be difficult to get a higher resolution in software mode (or only for fast computer), I will add the hardware switch possibility to enable higher resolutions, but this one requiere about 1mo download. anyway it is designed to be a little web game that you can play from anywhere when you get some free time.

Well I had some friends try it after the test and they didn't fall off the edge too fast so I'd definitely say the controls are better.

I know this might not be what you're going for but I think it would be awesome to be able to get score for doing flips and such off jumps in a freestyle room. Just something to think about if you finish race.

http://demo.dzzd.net/ROAD6/

level update :
 - more objects and more difficulties
 - different control, should be better...

some debug/improvment :
 - Review of collision class wich was not working properly and cause physic engine to had too much "grip".
 - Little bug on 3DS loader related to camera load.

Those boxes make it harder when they blend into the road  Undecided
But I found that ramps are sometimes acting like walls (doesn't matter where you are on the ramp).

difficulties add some more interrests to the game no ? maybe I should change those materials to make them more visible.

probably an other problem on the physics, any chance plz, to get a screenshot ? I would like to be sure that I am thinking of the same bug as you.

does anybody have some good idea to improve fun ?

EDIT:

nothing related but, need to put this somewhere, so...
I just discover that youtube enable HQ mode to play video by adding &fmt=18 or &fmt=6 on the URL:

Good stuff! Has that micro-racers feel.
I'd like the car brighter and the steering looser...

Looking complete now. The only problem I could find is that once when I hit a create at fast speed the car got all glitchy and then the screen turn black.
Also whats stopping anyone from driving on the grass then the track? I don't see the grass slowing the car down atm.
