I would start out by learning from a beginners book (can't recommend one, since I only got "java in a nutshell", which requires some programming knowledge)

there have been many post like yours, try searching a little on the forum. Basicly all answers are to find a good starting book, my favorite is "Killer Game Programming in Java" by Bruce Eckel.

Maybe you mean "Killer Game Programming in Java" by Andrew Davison?  It has a terrific companion website at http://fivedots.coe.psu.ac.th/~ad/jg/

yes, sorry Smiley ... Bruce Eckel wrote "Thinking in Java", also free and excellent book, but not about games.

"Headfirst Java" is also quite good though not free and not about games.

But it can get you started understanding programming and then a book like Davison's or Shawn Kendall's can fill in the game gaps.

Got a question about Java and game programming?  Just new to the Java Game Development Community?  Try my FAQ.  Its likely you'll learn something!
