Hi mods,
I think that a specific forum dedicated to OpenGL questions that are unrelated to a specific library is really helpful. It will save the people using LWJGL/JOGL to go to gamedev.com or opengl.org to ask questions.

Now asking questions on other forums might not be a bad idea, but when posting code, the C++/C people usually get confused and you end up with the first 5 posts explaining why there isn't another parameter in the function (for example: glGenTextures(int, array) is glGenTextures(buffer) in LWJGL)

Im sure there are enough people here using LWJGL/JOGL to populate that forum rather quickly. We could even start writing little "snipets of heaven" to help other people with specific problems...

Renaming the LWJGL forum to OpenGL would be fine for me.

For any LWJGL-specific questions one can head to www.lwjgl.org

By that logic shouldn't we close the JME and Xith forums as well?

Personally I think a GL board would be a good idea.

Each has their own board somewhere else. The only thing that Im afraid of is loosing the valuable posts we have on all the forums at the moment.

In anycase, thats diverging somewhere else, the LWJGL board doesn' t need to be deleted. Just add another board for OGL.

There's already a perfectly good board on opengl.org....

From first post:

Besides, with having an OGL forum here, the likely suspects of the APIs are going to be LWJGL and JOGL which makes answers more specific IMO.

Oooh! Devil's advocate there kevglass Tongue

I dont know about you guys, but I feel uneasy posting any general questions regarding OGL in either of the forums. I feel like the LWJGL board is for LWJGL related problems (displays not being created...etc) and similarly with JOGL.

you could also have an OpenGL forum with LWJGL and JOGL as sub forums to it, so any opengl question can go in the main forum, and any api specific questions in the sub forums. This could allow opengl gurus from both api's to help with general questions while not losing the api specific forums.

I never wanted to lose any of the API forums...

besides, your asking to make 2 subforums, which would tend to split good information between two subboards, 1 is nice Smiley

But It doesn't really matter, im easy going with both ideas.
