Curious, which games do you feel are the best looking Java games available, both commercially and through the community?  Links and screen shots welcomed (encouraged) in the thread!

well of course there is wurm online (screenshot gallery: http://wurmonline.com/gallery/). while the game lacks animation, it does have some pretty decent models, and Markus has done a great job with the effects (reflections on water, bloom, and all the other stuff he's adding in all the time)

another good looking game (or demo?) would be Spasi's Marathon.. for some reason the screenshots really amaze me.

So, we know about the "usual suspects", let's find some others.   Full games, games in progress, demos, etc.  Bring 'em on!

Chrome is pretty good, and I played it a fair bit. http://www.java.com/en/games/desktop/chrome.jsp

Undead Arena for it's particularly accurate Quake 3 recreation: http://home.halden.net/tombr/squareheads/squareheads.html

I also like some of the landscape shots of my own work in progress (shameless, shameless plug!) http://macethegame.com/screenshots/
Need to keep the website up to date though...

It's too bad that a few nice pictures hold so much sway, but it does, I'm just as guilty of judging the book by it's cover as anyone else.

But I have to keep in mind that the "Look" has very little to do with Java.  Going up against studios like EA that can afford to hire performers to do detailed motion capture, as well as brilliant graphic artists, musicians, etc... well it's not easy to get something that looks as good when you are tone deaf, can't draw, and working out of your basement Smiley.

It's a bummer that professional Java gaming (non-mobile phone) is caught in this chicken and egg situation where we can't even get a JVM on devices deemed critical to game studios.    Though making a good impression in the Indie scene seems to be helping remove some of the stigma from "slow, ugly Java"
