Got this Command & Conquer the first decade... includes the original C&C game. I hadn't played it in nearly 10 years, so I decided to play both singleplayer campaigns (nod & gdi).

I must say, the game experience was great! I recommend everyone that haven't played this game, or for a long time, to play it Smiley Of course it's a classic, so you probably have played it and probably own a copy already.

But it's amazing how much they were able to do in 1996, with the available computer power. I also remember a huge amount of fun playing it in multiplayer (modem!). You'll have a hard time remaking a game like that. It's also fun to look at the game from a game developers perspective. 10 years ago I knew nothing about game development, but now I can take the game apart in my head just by looking at it.

Oh well, nothing wrong with posting a appreciation for a old game Smiley

Multiplayer RA2 is definitely the best.

Isometric perspective is IMHO the best for any RTS game. Not a single RTS after RA2 gave me the ease of control I was used to.

It looks way better with accelerated graphics, but gameplay suffers, even RA1 beats the crap out of Generals (and possibly RA2 too). RA1 shined in it's multiplayer simplicity: only 2 important units - harvesters and heavy tanks, extremely fast gameplay (idling 2 seconds would make you lose, or harvesting the wrong place)... too bad they took the RA1 servers down.. They did the same to RA2, but the community took it over (thanks to XWIS).

RA1 worked with IPX (not TCP or UDP), never looked into it.

Yes. I've been looking at screenshots of the new C&C Tiberium Wars game, and the graphics are AMAZING. But, all the screenshots are very close-up of the battlefield. I don't like micro-managing a tank close-up... I like to be able to see as much of the battlefield so. But in this perspective, like in C&C Generals, you see a smaller portion of the battlefield than in RA2. In RA2 you could change your resolution to a very hight resolution and see more area, those new 3D games don't seem to have that option. Only a limited zoom-out, if I remember.

Tiberian Sun is my favorite out of the bunch on first decade but i own them all anyway so guess I'll pass but they are definitely great games, loved the way the story was told in the fmv's.

C&C Tiberium Wars (wonder why they always spell tiberian differently) looks good but personally i think Supreme Commander will kill all the RTS games in 2007.

Tiberium Wars seems looks graphically better than Supreme Commander, but I think that Supreme Commander is better in gameplay experience.

About a month ago I found my old original C&C disc and started it up using DOSBox. It really is a fantastic game, and the commado always makes me laugh - "Time to rock and roll!" - "That was left handed!"

Dune2 was tough, you could only select 1 unit at a time, which made you a heck of a lot more cautious!

Hehe, yes, a very memorable character indeed, Tanya too Smiley Although I'm more of a fan of building a base and wiping out the enemy with a overwhelming force.

I played the covert ops, they were pretty hard. But I think half of the difficulty is because of bad AI. Like in the singleplayer missions, if you destroyed the enemy base or some defense structures, they were immediatly rebuilt. Very annoying, especially if you contributed like 20 tanks to a base attack and lost them all... the enemy had rebuilt by the time you were able to scrape together another few tanks.

Hehe, This brings upp a lot of memories, I used to play wc2 and c&c on lan with friends all night, ahh, the good old days.... :-)
This makes me wonder, I haven't seen any java RTS that is similar to those games, are there any out there?

Surprisingly; not that I know of. You would think remaking a 10-11 yearold game would be easy.... well, it isn't. Maybe that just shows how big of a accomplishment the original C&C was.
