From the developers IDE, the command line or webstart.

There are any number of other ways for it to run too Wink

But will windows vista support opengl without any performance problems. This may be old but i heard some rumors about this version of windows only supporting opengl emulated through directx.

By the looks of it... opengl compatibility will be less of a problem on vista. Proper drivers mean full speed and default drivers mean dx wrapping (which is clearly nicer than software rendering).

Tribal Trouble works just fine on vista for example.

Those issues were resolved so OpenGL should work without any restrictions.

Sorry if I sound pedantic but how large is the performance difference between XP and Vista with TT?

What's TT.

Anyway there seems to be a difference between OpenGL and DirectX when it comes to Aero, the windowing subsystem in Vista.

From what I've heard to get full Aero you'll have to use Microsofts built-in OpenGL driver which only supports version 1.4 and may be slow. If you use any other OpenGL driver, say the speed optimized one that comes with the graphics card, you won't get full Aero but the limitations seem to be minor (tranclucent windows won't work for your program).

This was the situation a while back but maybe there are news.

Somewhere in these forums I posted a link to a blog from someone at MS who is on the desktop team. Apparently this issue was only there during beta's, and is a non issue for the 'real thing'

This one I think:

http://blogs.msdn.com/kamvedbrat/archive/2006/02/22/537624.aspx

The 3rd point being the one that people seem to be happy about. Not sure if I really understand the implications but it seems that means 3rd party providers can make 1st class citizen drivers for OpenGL hardware?
