Just a question to satisfy my curiousity..
Why GEL? it's been stopped over one year ago and certainly lacks some language features you might need. (moreover, Delphi seems to go in the direction of a rapid death so i wonder for how long anyone will be able to maintain it.. )

GEL also has some stability issues, which was the reason why I dropped it as general text editor.

How many other things do you run while you are developing software?

I mean I usually have a browser and mail client working and music playing while I'm using netbeans and I don't really notice any performance problems even on my slightly tired old PC. Not using good tools because you don't want your computer to have to work is like having a lamborghini and not driving it over 20 mile per hour because you don't want the engine to have to work too hard. gotta agree eclipse and netbeans can be pretty heavy on older computers, however you could try JCreater its a pretty, fast lightweight IDE, just not as good as eclipse Grin

i guess i'm going offtopic.. I don't want to discuss anyone's choice, but JCreator is not written in java, but in "a native Windows language" (heh, not saying C/C++, does it mean Delphi ? Wink )
Philosophically, how do you percieve that ?

well i know its not written in java but does that really matter?

personally if it gets the job done and better than the java alternatives on lower hardware, it'll be good enough for me , since in the end its just a tool.

I used to use Kawa - kick-ass basic Java IDE, not built in Java. Was very good. I wouldn't avoid using a really good hammer because it wasn't made of titanium.
