This is completely and totally off-topic (such is why I posted it in the offtopic category), but I have two logos that were designed and am trying to decide between the two and would like some assistance.

Please follow the link below and give feedback, it is greatly appreciated:

I was always told Logos should be graphically simple.  So I say 2 is better.

2 is better (works in monochrome, as well). Neither are particularly hot, no pun intended. What's the logo for?

Both quite poor, but the second one doesn't have drop-shadow on the text, although the 1981 retro font is quite poor, so it has to win from the two available options.

Not to be too critical ( logo design is a very personal and difficult stage of establishing an identity ), but the second one strikes me as too "marketing".  I originate from central Florida ( USA ) and that second one really does give me the feel of trying to sell a time share or retirement community investment.  Sorry if that's pretty harsh.

As mentioned above, the second one DOES have more variety to the design which helps with thinks like monochrome letter head and such. So I think it's going in the right direction, but could just use a little more evolution.

Maybe post a message of what you're trying to get across with the logo and that would help us interpret the delivery.  There's a big difference in how a logo is interpreted based on the message.  if you're trying to be fun and light-hearted it's very differnt than strong and powerful.  Neither are necessafily better than the other...just different messages.

Thanks for the opinions, and constructive criticism is always welcome, so no offense taken. Smiley

The logo is for a company and we've been debating between these two logos.

I'm getting the general feel that everyone likes #2 better.  Are there any ideas for how to make #2 an even better logo?

You could improve #2 by changing the font. What image do you want to project? Something cool and fun, you could look at some of the chankstore type fonts, something more formal think about a straight sans-serif. Look at some other company logos that you like. A lot of companies seem to use  a single case- for example Polydor are all lower-case, Oracle use small caps and so on, that can look a lot better. There is certainly more that you could be doing with typography.

If you were being a bit too clever u could get an interesting graphic using several solar circles overlapping like a venn diagram. Sun set. Classic. Grin

Yes, and since that market is SO large. :-p

I'll do some refactoring on the second logo and see if I can't steal some more opinions from you guys.  Thanks again, this has been wonderful feedback!

Uhm those logos remind me of another logo but damn if I can remember it.
And I don't like either of them.

But I'd happily suggest some changes:
Sunsets are darker so white and bright yellow and blue are to 'cold'.
More warm and darker colors.

That's alright, it occurs to me I'm probably more of a mathematics-loving punnster really anyway, although I still find the concept appealing.

I saw a billboard today that reminded me of this post, and thought the logo might provide some inspiration. http://www.sunset-tx.com/

@OP:
Another problem would be the not so positive linkage of the word sunsett with other meanings.
Think 'sunsett home' .. and I have a picture of a retirement home in my mind.
So you might want to add some kind of positive suggestions to it, so people think of beauty then of 'near the end of' or 'about to be over'

That's not a bad logo, but I do agree with OverKill that "Sunset" is a bad naming choice for a location you want people to come to unless of course it's a retirement community.  Fortunately I don't want people coming and staying, so I'm in the clear here. Wink
