I read that and added some comment to point them to JOAL... perhpas the game community can come to the rescue and make JOAL a suitable replacement.. and eventually get it blessed through the JCP

Sun sure picked the right guy (Florian Bomers) for Java Sound, he also maintains Tritonus Project (Open Source JavaSound) and Java Sound Resources with Matthias Pfisterer. He also actively responds all questions regarding Java Sound at Java Sound Interest Group mailing list.
