I also only managed it with jumping and then moving the right moment. (It worked best for me, when I didn't look at the screen )
But it also works to gain speed with bouncing against the wall first. It worked nicely in the level with all those spikes, where you had to jump of the large area of spikes.

I eventually got past it using Morre's sneaky trick of jumping and using the second bounce to give me a little more height. Before eventually completing the rest of the levels.
