hello guys
i am planning to develop a 3d asteriods game using the 3d java api and i will use maya to build the ship and the surronding and the universe.
the quetions is how should i start ?

Well, if you are going to be using Java3D you shoudl probably start by downloading the API and docs, and looking through and understanding the basic exampels included with it.
