EDIT : after 10 mins of play (hapened 2 times) i am stuck and can't move... looks like It was caused by shitty server which is way too laggy and slow, and ocassionally goes down. I am moving to a new server for the next build, so i expect things to be much smoother in the near future.

This is looking really great Rolz - nice and smoth on my PC - FPS ranged from 42 - 75 - 90% time was around 55 or so. No problems. I would prefer to move by keyboard though and I didn't really know what to do - I killed something, but my guy did it without me initiating anything, so I give him the credit Yes, that's a problem right now The game is currently a bit more than raw engine with some objects and sample quests / interactions. I am currently filling the game with content and work on game plot to make it playable. The next build will add more content, persistence for players and quests. Regarding the auto-AI. Yes, your player will attact enemies when they are nearby and you were idle for some time. It may be not as effective as manual control, but at least you can freely go make some coffee while auto-pilot does some basic self-defence for you. Actually, there are several "yums" i plan to add in the near future - like vehicles, hiring bot teammates and control panel for AI, from which you could set different aspects of your player / teammates behaviour - like auto-fire or auto-flee. Thesу features are all low priority for now but i expect to add them in 2-3 months.

Hmm, continually having problems getting the web start to run. I dunno why. I took LWJGL out of my extensions folder (thought that might be it), but it still refuses to start. Basically it says "Starting Application" and the progress bar flashes full/empty constantly.
Unfortunatelly, i dont owe a MAC to test the game on it. I've just packed FMOD/LWJGL binaries for macosx along with the game hoping that they'll work. If you agree to help, I could send you a stand-alone version for Macs.

Did i mentioned that game progress could be tracked on Helge's site ? I dont post everything to javagaming, just new release announcements. You may visit the link above for screenshots on day-to-day progress.

Good news for Technopolies. - We have moved to a new site- The team has grown to 3 members who will be responsible for the web site and game server. The dev journal is currently migrating from JPCT forum Currently, you can check game's Dev Journal, Screenshots and Vote on game improvements. We plan to add more new content, arrange proper download section and in time add own discussion board (until then Forum section links to JPCT site). Welcome to Technopolies, and wish us good luck ! Rolz, great! I like your (yours) new site very much. Unfortunatelly, JGF is down now so I can't try new features you mention - opening dors, plastic keycards and so on... You should really consider uploading resources to your new server and make one jnlp for them. In that way we could play when JGF is down Anyway I wish you many luck, but you don't need it much since you have knowledge and entusiasm.

Thanks, There are several major things to be added and verified before they appear in the game. Until then, only old version (the one on JGF) will be publicly available. Changes for the 0.96: - game server will move to a more responsive site - network code will be reworked using UDP+TCP combination for better responsiveness - persistence will be added for players - ability to hire bot teammates - better pathfinding for bots - changes to hit/damage calculation for ranged weapons - new objects See you back in two weeks.

Yes, actually all levels are stored in Visio. You can read visio's XSD documents easily with something like Apache's XMLBeans. It is still far better than using custom tile editors

Available on Technopolies sitei'll send additional notification when webstart version is ready. New features: - relief and texture maps has been redesigned to be stored on server and transfered to client when player enters new location (~3kb per location). This will give ability to add new levels to server "on the fly" without storing anything on client. - added Coalition Bunker location - added passages. You have to click on passage to go to another location - added doors - player can now open / close doors - added "key-locked" doors, which can be opened/locked with proper key - added plastic keycards - added NPC which gives you plastic key on Coalition Base location - - switched to faster server in Moscow - improved bot pathfinding AI - network code has been redesigned to use combination of TCP and UDP - changed hit/damage calculation for ranged weapons to follow D&D rules - player's state is now saved on server after logout - added quests ('Q' button) - added tables - added hospital beds - added infusion drip stands - added Terminals - added Bulletin boards

Hmmm... well this is thr first time it has ever run on my computer, and not too well...
I started with 1290x1024 resolution, and was getting a VERY slow walk, although 30+ fps... then at a certain point it would not respond to input and stopped moving anymore. So I restarted with 800x600 resolution, and the fps actually were worse (from 20-25), and about the same time (when nearing the door) everything stopped responding.
It seemed almost like the slow walk speed was intentional... Anyway, it's not very playable.
I'm running Mac OS X Tiger on a Powermac G5 1.8 ghz with 2.5gb of RAM and a Radeon 9600 Pro with 64mb of video ram.

Thanks for evaluating it, Demonpants.
I am currently planning a number of gameplay/performance improvements for the upcoming version that should make it more playable.

Upon reading that post, I realize I had absolutely no praise.
This game looks pretty as hell, and it excites me that it's made in Java because of the potential it clearly demonstrates. And I loved Fallout, whose graphic style and atmosphere you have wonderfully emulated.
Great work, I understand it's a work in progress.
