Sorry, but I'm confused.  I can't find any information on LWJGL.  I see it mentioned on several sites, but no real info on it, and javagaming seems to have the most people on it, so I figured I'd ask here.

Is it a completely new graphics API?  Or does it build on what java has?  And who created it?  And where can I get it?  Is it just for 3D, or can it also be used for 2D?
