Just out of curiousity what type of license do you have for GAGE? I'm writing something and I'd like to use the GAGE Timer and I'm willing to give credit and all.

Just answered the same question this morning: License? What's that? Is there supposed to be a license for this stuff? Hmm... How about this: do whatever you want with it, just don't blame me if it breaks and at least try to make some modifications to it if you're going to claim it as your own. How's that? Oh, and please (pretty please?) drop me a line if you do something with GAGE. I'm really interested in what people do with it.

> I printed its sourcecode on my toilet paper Dude, that's a really great idea! Do you know of any professional printers that would do a good job of this? Maybe I could even get the FreeBSD source done while I'm at it! Nothing like learning some code while you're using the head. > I read it to my wife at night to send her to sleep Lucky you. My wife would run away screaming if I ever tried anything like that.

Nothing like learning some code while you're using the head. The scary thing is, if you mention that idea to any one of the geek sites around that sell noveltys for developers, they MAY just take you seriously. For example: caffeineated soap. This one scares me.

Lucky you. My wife would run away screaming if I ever tried anything like that. You local S&M shop will sell handcuffs, or your local hardware shop will sell ducktap, but if you are in a romatic mode you can use some silk. She will still scream, but hey, you can't have everything.

I wasn't entirely joking. I think something like sourcecode on TP would be a *great* novelty item. My wife would roll her eyes at me, but it would still be pretty neat. > She will still scream, but hey, you can't have everything. Mlk, you're starting to scare me... :-/

sourcecode on my toilet paper You'd have to be sure and use some fairly robust printing method. Given the mess that fresh newsprint can make of your hands, printed toilet paper may well make more mess than than no paper at all.

That's why I jokingly mentioned a professional printer. Using a standard bubble jet would make a hugh mess. A laser printer would do a better job as long as it isn't one of those that "leaks" extra toner all over the paper. Of course, trying to feed a roll thorugh a laser would be a task in of itself. You're much better off getting a manufacturer or printer to do the job. They have the equipment to actually dye/stain the TP. This would make the job permanent and smear free.

Now THERE'S a license opportunity for you, jbanes! License it to the toilet paper manufacturer.

Now theres an unmissable conversation 'i've got a print job for ya...' 'I want to print this....' <pulls out a file full of sourcecode> 'onto.... this' <wips out a toilet roll> LMAO. Having said that... I do have some printer paper that is so thin, it could almost BE toilet paper, maybe I should give it a try

> I do have some printer paper that is so thin, it could > almost BE toilet paper, maybe I should give it a try If you have a laser printer, you could always try to get a roll of that industrial strength TP. (You know, the stuff that you find in public bathrooms that's feels like wax paper without the wax.) You should get a nice printout on those. You might still have a few feed problems, but they could be worked around.

A school mate of mine actually did print an assignment on a roll of toilet paper and handed it in that way. This was way back in the early 80's... he had a fancy printer at the time that used some sort of single pixel printhead that burnt carbon onto the paper with an electical charge.. you could see it sparking as it zipped across the page.
I'm not sure if he got a good mark on that assignment...

Good lord I've created a monster! And yeah, wow, going from a licensing question to printing source code on toilet paper is about as far of the mark as I can conceive.
jbanes, I'm doing (get ready to roll your eyes) Yet Another MMORPG. I have the 2D and Sound already written so I just need the timer. I'll drop you a line if I ever get my lazy butt in to gear and finish what I've started.
P.S. Use two-ply.
P.P.S. What in the heck do you use caffienated soap for? I mean aside for washing. Do you eat it? I mean, egad man, What's the point!

Darkwing, Human skin has pores. It breathes. It perspires. But skin can also INGEST, which is the point of caffeinated soap. You take in caffeine with your shower and your skin is what ingests it. I should tell you I didn't believe this either, until I actually used it. A word to the wise: don't shower AND THEN have a cup of coffee. That is just asking for trouble.

When it comes to topics like this, all I can say is thank god for the Interet!
Just when I think I've read all the topics of interest to me on the site, a strange one comes along and makes me smile.

If you printed out the source code to Windows on a case of that stuff I'm sure just the Microsoft haters alone would buy enough rolls to keep you in business. Hell I know I'd buy a case

http://www.gregorypierce.comShe builds, she builds oh man When she links, she links I go crazy Cause she looks like good code but she's really a hack I think I'll run upstairs and grab a snack!

Well, that shouldn't be too hard: Win95: if(random()*10 == 5) crash(); Win98: #IFDEF INTERNET_EXPLODER if(random()*10 == 5) crash(); #ENDIF WinNT 3.51: //Commented out to make customers believe NT will work. //if(random*10 == 5) crash(); WinNT 4.0: #IFDEF NEW_PRETTY_GUI if(user_doing_something_important()) kernel_panic_in_pretty_GUI(); #ENDIF WinME: if(desktop_pretty()) crash(); Win2000: if(customer_looking()) stablize_system(); else kernel_panic(); WinXP: if(something_important()) dont_boot_pirated();
