1  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: [libgdx] Mixing Orthogonal and Perpective Camera? on: 2014-08-30 04:39:00
You can draw actual 3d models in the orthogonal camera in libgdx, if that's what you want, or you can use PerspectiveCamera with billboard sprites from top down, I guess.
2  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: Do you ever actually just despise someone ? on: 2014-08-23 07:25:30
Meh, I try to act like I don't care...nothing good can really come from really despising someone (this includes forum posts Wink)
3  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: League of Legends ;D on: 2014-08-21 03:58:30
Yeah from what I've heard plat is the least toxic - lower elos are prone to extreme throw/feeding/tilt but higher elos (diamond) tend to be elitist.
4  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: League of Legends ;D on: 2014-08-21 03:13:10
The gameplay in dota2/lol is decent, although I do agree that their communities (especially lol) can be pretty bad. I'm stuck in silver Tongue
5  Discussions / Business and Project Management Discussions / Re: Game Programmer looking for Team on: 2014-08-21 02:53:49
I'm sorry if it came off that way, I just wanted people to know and beaware of my age.
Yeah that's fine, I just see a lot of high schoolers like you and me try to use their young age as a selling point, not realizing that, if you join a team, it's because of your skill, not your skill compared to your age.
6  Discussions / Business and Project Management Discussions / Re: Game Programmer looking for Team on: 2014-08-21 02:17:22
Moved topic - to respond to the post though, a couple of things. First, it's highly unlikely that any team you find will be willing to use your engine especially when it's written in java2D. Besides this, please don't try to emphasize your own age because you think you're young to be programming, it's unprofessional in contrast to the rest of your post.
7  Discussions / Community & Volunteer Projects / Re: Indie Game Developer Magazine. on: 2014-08-09 16:27:45
I recommend a better title page Grin
Also you should probably ask for a name in interviews...not everyone is identifiable by gmail.
8  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: HighSchool classes on: 2014-08-09 00:48:39
Algebra2/Trig was 9th grade but we didn't learn vectors until precalc the next year (this may have been because of our 30 year old textbooks Grin)
9  Games Center / WIP games, tools & toy projects / Re: Rubicon on: 2014-08-08 06:46:48
Nice game, graphics are pretty cool, reminds me of missile command Smiley
10  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: What I did today on: 2014-07-27 05:37:32
Click to Play

~30 minutes, attempted hyperspace effect (2D) libgdx (gif is laggy, not computer)
11  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Java Swing GUI Creator on: 2014-07-16 04:28:19
Netbeans has a pretty decent editor.
This, I would highly recommend the nbeans editor
12  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: [LibGDX] Box2D and Box2DLight benefits for different games? on: 2014-07-10 20:32:39
Even in a game like monaco you can still make very good use of box2d/box2dlights and it will certainly be faster than writing your own lighting code. I'm not sure what you mean by more efficient - top down games in box2d equate to basically just setting gravity to 0.
13  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: LibGDX - Box2D images on: 2014-07-10 17:08:12
You can use dermetfan's box2dsprite or just draw them in the same place
14  Games Center / WIP games, tools & toy projects / Re: Space Stroids on: 2014-07-06 17:51:40
I read "Space Steroids" persecutioncomplex
You might want to shorten your original post and then just link the dev diary/details to somewhere else, though.
15  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Drawing Graphics on: 2014-07-05 17:55:25
How do you plan on creating a library for beginners and children if you yourself are a beginner? And, your games all use the paint() method to render not just shapes, but images, so...persecutioncomplex
16  Discussions / Suggestions / Re: Pre-WIP section on: 2014-07-01 17:22:36
Not much point in having two wip boards, it'll be hard to categorize which should go where (too subjective) and will just end up being a lot of post moving with little real result. If anything, a "pre-wip" board will only encourage people to post when they don't even have a demo or proof of contest (more clutter).
17  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: How to make an Image rotate? on: 2014-06-26 17:24:04
Use an AffineTransformOp and pass it into the call to drawImage: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8639567/java-rotating-images
That was my question, 3 years ago Grin
18  Game Development / Game Play & Game Design / Re: which player sprite looks better? on: 2014-06-24 17:52:04
There's only one candidate though Grin

Anyways to not go too off topic, both of the original sprites seem to be draw from a weird viewpoint. Why is the face facing the camera in a platformer? Looks more like something you'd see out of an RPG.
Please excuse my fast-scrolling habits

20  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment with LibGDX on: 2014-06-20 16:59:29
I've seen this error before, I'm guessing you're disposing something that you are still using later?

22  Discussions / Business and Project Management Discussions / Re: Join JumpButtonStudio! on: 2014-06-16 17:54:09
How much is a "cut" of the profit? Does it vary based on whether you use your artists/musicians for example?
23  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: This is one of the worst feelings i ever had on: 2014-06-16 04:42:10
Resolving your own problems, by yourself, is the way to improve yourself imo Pointing
Of course there's a limit to that, but you know your own morals best. There's messed up stuff all over the world, what you can do is not let it affect you being the best you can Smiley
24  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Fans on: 2014-06-14 07:04:43
Don't have much to say about fans, but nice game Smiley Reminds me of a game on iPhone - can't remember what it's called, but it had similar mechanics but with raindrops.
25  Game Development / Articles & tutorials / Re: Java and Game Development Tutorials on: 2014-06-14 01:21:06
I...don't see how that relates to my comment?
26  Game Development / Articles & tutorials / Re: Java and Game Development Tutorials on: 2014-06-14 00:45:00
SwordsMiner's thread

Don't know how you missed articles and tutorials, but I've moved the post here. Can't change the author though.

About the actual tutorial, not a good idea to start people on making static methods Pointing
27  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Flubber Space on: 2014-06-11 06:08:10
I remember a thread here...I'm not an expert on it however, probably better to look up an online tutorial. For your first game, you don't even need a patcher, though. I was just saying that if you're going to put "constantly updated" as a feature you need some way to show those new updates Tongue
28  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Flubber Space on: 2014-06-11 05:56:30
Embed youtube, just use the youtube tag with the part after v= in the url inside the tag.

Honestly, you shouldn't be selling this game. I don't want to sound like I'm flaming your game, but your trailer has an incredibly quiet voiceover, a screenshot-o-matic watermark, and what I believe is a windows live movie maker transition (correct me if I'm wrong, I've used that maybe once). Additionally, your trailer has more "development" footage than actual gameplay, which is not the first impression you want to make in a trailer like that. To add to that, you claim you're going to constantly work on the game, which may be true, but without a patcher, how are people going to get updated versions of the game?

Overall, it's for your own good to complete your game before even thinking about monetizing it. There are so many flash games with more polish that are free, so think about that as well. It won't happen here, but you can hurt your reputation if you release something before you're ready.
29  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: [Libgdx] model isometric camera on: 2014-06-10 18:06:37
Just replace the PerspectiveCamera with a rotated OrthographicCamera...

People who you've highlighted - given enough medals to - have their posts shown in green. Also toggleable per profile.
Usefulness: when a thread is all green I know it's quality Grin
