1  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Starting a Java Game, Where to Start? Eventually want to be network multiplayer on: 2014-12-14 01:53:52
Advanced warning...the initial setup is kind of a nightmare, but it's definitely worth it! Smiley
There's a gui
2  Games Center / Featured Games / Re: [Slick2d] Retro-Pixel Castles > Now on Steam! < on: 2014-12-13 22:41:15
OT... but why for the love of humanity would anyone ever want to stream code or to watch code being streamed? Am I showing my age?
Yeah, I don't really get it either - unless the streamer is basically lecturing on a certain subject, I wouldn't be interested.

4  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: LibGDX/Eclipse Exporting Runnable Jar on: 2014-12-08 06:33:04
With AssetManager, I've only gotten it to work by putting a folder with all the assets in the same directory as the .jar. This probably isn't the correct method, but it does work.
5  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: LibGDX/Eclipse Exporting Runnable Jar on: 2014-12-08 05:32:57
Try running it through command prompt, and seeing what error pops up. To do this, open up cmd (windows key-r, cmd), navigate to the directory of your jar using cd
1
cd C:\Users\Jimmt\Downloads
(for example) and then do
1
java -jar nameofjar.jar
6  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: LibGDX Projectile shooting on: 2014-12-07 07:03:21
iirc, it's because OpenGL coordinates are from the top down, while Gdx.input.getY() gets the y coordinate from the bottom of the screen, so you subtract to get actual coordinates. Another solution would be to use a Vector3 and camera.unproject().
7  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: LibGDX Projectile shooting on: 2014-12-06 23:44:55
Not really sure what you mean by "only two angles", but
1
Vector2 vec = new Vector2(Gdx.input.getX() - getPos().x, Gdx.input.getX() - getPos().x);

should be
1
Vector2 vec = new Vector2(Gdx.input.getX() - getPos().x, Gdx.graphics.getHeight() - Gdx.input.getY() - getPos().y);

Also, why not use the built-in methods of Vector2? You can do vec.angle() or vec.angleRad() to get the angle, and you can do
1
getBody().setLinearVelocity(vec.nor().scl(speed));

which normalizes the vector (same thing as setting x,y to cos, sin) and then multiplies both the x and the y by your speed.
8  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: LWJGL3 no GLFW package? on: 2014-12-06 05:16:42
3. My game engine is going to be easier and along the idea of "make an entity and tell it what to do (program it) then leave it... no need to update it and render it every frame"
Out of all the tedious things in programming, calling render() and update() are pretty low on the list. Besides, how are you going to make an engine without these methods?
9  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Put texture to rectLine on: 2014-12-06 05:12:06
If you're talking about libgdx's shaperenderer, that's for shapes only. If you want to draw a texture like that, you'll have to set the width/height and rotate it.
10  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: LibGDX - how to make a popup window on: 2014-12-05 18:36:17
You can easily use scene2d.Dialog for popup windows. If you don't use a stage for the rest of the game, you can just make a stage specifically for HUD/ui and draw that after you draw your game, so it shows up on top. For pause libgdx already has a pause method in ApplicationListener/Game, you can invoke that.
11  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Scaled, zoomed, pixelated retro effect in LibGDX on: 2014-12-01 22:55:13
Not sure why this post or your other post "Using TWL..." were in OpenGL development. If it doesn't fit into a sub-forum category, just post it in general.

Oh, I thought they rendered to a OpenGL window. Must be mistaken, apologies
libgdx uses lwjgl in the background , but you don't deal with any of it ypuself if you don't want to.

14  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: (LibGdx)TextField not receiving input on: 2014-11-29 21:26:41
You can just use the TextFieldListener, monitor for Keys.ENTER, and then save into string and do what you like.

16  Games Center / WIP games, tools & toy projects / Re: devlog Project_TB #1 on: 2014-11-27 20:13:42
This by itself shouldn't be in WIP, but if you can take a screenshot and copy/paste the download link of your game into your original post, it should be fine.
17  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: PrepperCraft! - A free voxel game. on: 2014-11-26 21:30:03
Sorry, but this isn't a game, just a few lines of code. I'll move it back to WIP if you make an actual game.

21  Java Game APIs & Engines / Engines, Libraries and Tools / Re: LibGDX ShapeRenderer circles on: 2014-11-03 18:52:33
Most likely you updated libgdx libraries or something, it used to be FilledCircle, FilledRect etc but now you just specify filled type and then circle.
22  Games Center / WIP games, tools & toy projects / Re: SJGL (Simple Java Game Library) on: 2014-11-01 18:48:20
I'm tired of all this negative feedback. It's really frustrating to make game/game engines when no one will take you seriously and all they do is point out the flaws. For the record, this is supposed to be a small, basic, desktop library, that I did for fun.
You'll never learn anything if all you get is positive feedback...what happens if no one points out the flaws? Uh, they stay there. So if you want to ignore the help people are trying to give you, then you will stay with your flawed library, instead of improving it.

Don't double-post projects, please. I removed your other post, since this belongs in android showcase.
24  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: LibGDX - A good flag or command on: 2014-10-21 06:16:11
Do you mean only running it 3 times, as opposed to running it three times per frame? If you want this behavior why would you put it in a loop in the first place?
25  Games Center / WIP games, tools & toy projects / Re: Star Four on: 2014-10-19 15:49:04
Box2DLights is pretty easy to implement so I'd give it a shot, but you should probably have your collision set up using box2d, if you don't already.
26  Games Center / WIP games, tools & toy projects / Re: Star Four on: 2014-10-19 06:40:42
Those graphics actually look pretty cool, with some sci-fi-esque lighting it'd look even better Smiley

28  Discussions / General Discussions / Shameless Plug (#2?) on: 2014-10-14 03:00:03
As part of jumpbuttonstudios, I've been informed of the need to advertise our patreon here on JGO. Originally the title was going to be "Jumpbuttonstudios Patreon" but cas has shamed me into this title Emo

Again, link here.

Anyways, if you didn't already know, we're a team of developers from different places with different skillsets all with the common interest of producing great games. Currently we have talented developers, but lack the funding necessary to advertise games properly and give them the exposure they deserve. Additionally, we'd like to target iOS and not just tunnel on Android, but this requires a license and Mac computer to develop. As for Patreon specifically, it's a crowdfunding service that focuses on constant funding per month rather than a singular monetary goal, so we think using Patreon will help more with long-term success both for us and the consumer. Any support is appreciated Smiley
29  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Paint program that allows full rotation? on: 2014-10-13 03:51:43
Pretty much any image editing/art program other than paint will support something like this. There have been threads about this on here, but off the top of my head you can try photoshop, gimp, or paint.net.
