1  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Re: Geometry and Light on: 2004-07-17 08:22:37
hello aschwalb,

alas, it's not that : i take exactly the same material, the same position and the same light : using the TestUtils.createSphere geometry it works, but with my sphere geometry it has this amazing behavior...

the geometry is missing something i think, but i don't know what...

Adenthar.

Hello everybody,

I want to make some code to create a sphere geometry like the TestUtils.createSphere() but with uvMapping and some more options and to learn more about geometry Smiley.
I made it but i've got some problem with light.

With TestUtils.createSphere()  the sphere is lighted correctly (part of the sphere shadowed)

With the same code but with my createSphere the sphere is :
- not lighted when the light is on negative Z axis
- completely lighted with no shadows on it when the light is on positive Z axis

i don't understand the problem with my geometry. With culling on; the normals seems good. What other parameters must be set for the geometry to  be correctly lighted ?
(for the moment i only make the coord points (in correct order for the normal but i don't explicity make the normal) and i put the texture Coords)

Thanks for help,

Adenthar.

- Some news would be good i think : just to say where the project goes, what new feature has just been implemented and so on, it's a good way to make the project 'alive' which is a very important thing for everybody Smiley.
- The list of all the features of Xith3D (i've only seen it in the forum and i'm not sure it's up to date, i think it's one of the first think a newbie would want to know, for me it's the case Wink )
- The list of current projects using Xith3D with links to them (i know it's already on the site but it's not very complete).

For the rest, i think the site is already very good, one of the best thing that makes me start trying programing with Xith3D was the 'docs' section with the very good getting started guide. A guide even more complete would be a fantastic thing for all newbies but i know it's lots of work for  people who already know Xith3D.

Hi everybody,

I've got a very basic problem : i've placed my classes in a folder texture and my jpg under a /texture/texture folder. For the loader i made this :

1
2
txLoader = new TextureLoader();
txLoader.registerPath("texture/texture/");

This code works well under windows on a computer of a friend, but not on my linux where it can't find the texture Huh ! i've checked right permission and there are OK.  Any idea ?

Thanks in advance,

Adenthar.

Hello verence !

you forgot to say where is the object you want to see in space coords ?
if it's near your view it can disapear with a translation because of the frontClipDistance of your view (i.e. distance where the object is ignored for rendering)

check this :

1
2
view.setFrontClipDistance(0.1f);
view.setBackClipDistance(100f);

Hope this will help.

Hello everybody,

i'm a new user of Xith 3D and i'm starting to discover step by step the API.

I have a question : If i want to move the view object, must i use matrix3D, vector3F operation to do the right transformation or is it better to do Transformation using appropriate Transform3D and view.setTransform() ?
