1  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: Trailblazer 4k...... A work in progress, but will be finished soon on: 2007-01-30 21:17:33
Nice game!
The only con for me is the mouse sensibility, too high for me.
2  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: FallDown on: 2007-01-30 21:07:18
The FallDown.jar is at full screen on my 1.5.0_10-b03 (I think it's not the first version 'cause the ball changes its colour).
If you could apply some physics to the ball I think it would improve the game experience.
3  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: Vector 4K game on: 2006-12-10 17:38:44
passed level 25 when I get this message on the console (I don't use webstart):

"Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space"

don't know if it freezes to with webstart but I suppose it does.

machine: JRE 1.5.0.9-b3, windows XP Pro system, 1GB RAM

I think you should add something else besides more bases each time to hook the player to it
4  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: 4KJO (four Kilobyte game JAR optimiser) on: 2006-12-08 15:08:28
Great! Lots of thanks.
5  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: 4K V-Ball on: 2006-12-06 12:12:48
I like the new mouse system more than the initial one.

And a question: how much space does the sounds take ?
6  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: 4K V-Ball on: 2006-12-05 05:07:51
Hi,

great for a 4K game!

And as long as the yellow dot has to b on the court I think that a '3D' mouse will be more intuitive.

7  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: Goop on: 2006-12-04 22:53:21
Wow! Awesome!
A very nice character, too.
I like the fact the ball grows each time it rescues a mini-ball. The deformable part is great too.
8  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: ON THE BALL on: 2006-12-04 22:46:33
Reached level 8 with first live :p
Nice fractal backgrounds Smiley
If you get some extra bytes, some deformation on the ball would make it better.
9  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: Cubis on: 2006-12-04 22:25:59
Well, two levels are not a big deal  Wink . I hope you get to fit some more.
10  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: l4krits on: 2006-12-03 15:26:54
Very good and addictive game!
I had one time the same proble as me (the user). And if you solve one cue while the last one solved is still dropping the 'bonus', the first bonus dissapears and then you get only the last one.
11  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: Buggaroo on: 2006-12-01 22:43:09
Quite hard. Maybe a little increase on player's life is needed.
12  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: Section4k on: 2006-12-01 22:28:05
Wow, I like the graphic effects and it's very original, but when it gets some speed it's hard to do anything calculated and then you could only wait for luck to get some extra seconds.
13  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: jnetwalk4k on: 2006-12-01 22:14:13
Time is short and it's not showed anywhere. Nice entry.
14  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: SQUARIUS on: 2006-12-01 22:03:10
I reach the boss at level 6 but then I died and I have not reached it no the next 2 minutes, so I quit...
It has very good powerups, but the green balls aren't very useful and bullets shooted from nowhere are a little bit weird :p
Very good game. This year will be hard to be top something  Grin
15  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: Here we go again! on: 2006-12-01 21:34:10
I hope this year could finish something in time  Grin
As long as the rules are not yet closed, and as there are people with windows, linux and mac (and unix and some other OSes), why don't provide a 'common test' machine (via vmware image or whatever similar, with a linux for example so it will no be legal issues) so people with just one machine could test it on a 2nd machine before send it?
Well, let's see where I put all the files from last year...  Tongue
16  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: And the winner is ... on: 2006-03-20 23:46:40
Congratulations to all the winners!!

I hope I could find some time to finish something next year.
17  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: Worms 4K!! on: 2006-02-13 19:18:13
Bullet works perfect now.
If you could make some space a little improvement on cpu's IA would make it more challenging so on large distances they keep shooting at the same place, missing every shot.
18  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: Worms 4K!! on: 2006-02-08 19:00:30
change sound/AI only works on alternate games.
the bullet sometimes goes through walls and doesn't explode if hits a worm.
soemtimes is difficult to see the aiming cross, is it possible to make it red for example ?

test machine: athlon xp @3200+, xp pro and jre 1.5
19  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: Rally 4k (title to be confrimed) on: 2006-02-01 23:07:33
Runs at 90 aprox. fps on my computer without any halos at all.

I think the car gets too much speed so a limit earlier than it have now would be better and maybe it would be needed some kind of limits outside the circuit with straw, tires or anything.
And to pass to the 'R' gear I think it would be better the car was stopped, so if you brake it makes reduce speed to 0 then have to release key and press it again to get it.
If possible, make the grass reduce the car speed too.

Thanks for testing, what computer and os do you have? This version is just a concept tech test atm, the current control system will not be used in the actual game.

XP @3200 with win xp pro sp 2, 1 gig ram and radeon 9200 128 meg and jre 1.5

21  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: who needs judges? on: 2006-01-30 14:13:04
I like the different sub categories idea, but it may be hard to make a simple way to vote. Anyway, the best gameplay, best graphics, best technical achievement and best sound/music would be great. I think it would be better for this categories to get only one vote and not a top x.

If searching for the critical comments, I think too that public vote will stop lots of critical comments.

I think that if we make people vote, make people vote the games they played. I seriously doubt that all the people who may vote will play all the games, maybe played the ones they get attention for screenshots or name (for example) and then vote the best from the ones they played, so rather than a best 3/5/10 I think it would be better a list with all the games and then the voter rate the games that he/she played with the different categories required (pulldown menus to make it easy) and a final score that he/she thinks the game deserves (so the game may lack sound, for example, but it could score 10 on the final score) and finally a textbox for comments (maybe not required but very appreciated) . This way it could take a long time to vote for ones that played all the games but it would be more fair than a "top something" IMHO.

22  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: Xero - The Last Hope for Mankind on: 2006-01-25 11:38:48
The boss bar is great!
Now the up/down movement is better too.
I past the boss with 1st live but then there are too many enemies imho (they took me all the lives without any pause).

ok,ok. You can stop looking for them. I just wished there are some...

LOL! That was actually pretty funny. Poor x30ice was probably looking frantically for them. Smiley

Well, if not homing missiles at least a double shot   Grin
23  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: Xero - The Last Hope for Mankind on: 2006-01-24 19:01:34
 Shocked homing missiles?? where??
24  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: Xero - The Last Hope for Mankind on: 2006-01-24 18:50:51
al last I could beat the boss (to end killed 2 waves later...), but a bar or some kind of indication (hits left, energy left ?) would be good  Tongue
25  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: Xero - The Last Hope for Mankind on: 2006-01-24 17:52:29
The ship moves faster laterally than vertically. The left/right speed is good, could the up/down speed be increased to make all equal?
26  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: Rally X 4K on: 2006-01-24 01:05:22
Nice idea!

One question: Is smoke limited in any way?

Played 'til 2nd stage (I'm in a hurry now) and 2 little things: experimented some little slowdowns when turning directions and graphics errr... what's the name... 'blinks' a little (definitively I need more sleep and retake some english classes too  Embarrassed ) when scrolling.

test machine used: XP 3200+ 1 gig ram on XP PRO and JRE 1.5
27  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: Warpstar4K on: 2006-01-23 15:44:39
The new version is easier than previous one, but there are little quick slowdowns that doesn't appear before.
28  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: Source for smallest game loop on: 2006-01-19 18:59:52
So will be this code correct and small enough or it's better to change the way Markus_Persson said ? I wonder if the 'extras' "m." could penalize what's gained from keeping all in the main method.

29  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / processEvent vs processKeyEvent on: 2006-01-18 21:36:44
Some little questions  Tongue

For an action (to name it) keyboard based game (5 game keys plus escape and maybe pause) it's better to use processEvent or processKeyEvent (in terms of keeping the class small) ? In the little tests I've done it seems processKeyEvent is lighter, but I'm not really sure.

Any hint to how to get the smallest double-buffering technique ?

Thanks for your help.

The turtle moves right, but mario moves very fast on my pc too.
