1  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: multiplayer via network? on: 2006-02-14 20:05:07
A: The rules don't prohibit it, but network games tend to do very poorly in judging. We've had several examples over the past few years (e.g. IsOlation Net), but none of them have gotten even close to winning. IsOlation Net got 45th place (out of 50) and Bombnet 4k got last place.

I wanted to ask this for sometime now.  Why did the 2 judges disqualify this entry (IsOlation)Huh
"No one online to play with ..."

LOL.  I mean... what did u expect.   millions of gamers waiting in battle.net to play this game?     Probably the judge could have opened 2 windows of the same game to try out the gameplay etc.

10  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Tunnel3D on: 2005-12-20 18:52:16
Hi,
This is my first entry  Grin

Tunnel3D:

http://www.myjavaserver.com/~coredumped/tunnel/Tunnel3D.jar
This is a high-speed action game where you maneuver your space ship through a wormhole to reach the other end of the black hole.  If u don’t make it in time, your spaceship would be sucked in the black hole forever!

Use Cursor keys to accelerate/decelerate & roll left/right.  If you hit any of the blue slabs, the speed will reduce to 66% of the maximum speed (if you are already above that speed)

Instructions on running the apps:
The game is packed in a standalone executable JAR. Just download and double-click it.
It can also be run from the command line (java -jar Tunnel3D.jar)

I kept the maximum speed really fast since I feel its more fun that way.  (You might have to tap left/right instead of holding them down to properly roll and avoid the obstacles)

Will add more stuff to it when I get time.

Till then enjoy Smiley

Ali

Hi,
I'm new to this 4k programming and am really excited abt it (i work on J2ME).  A few quick qns.

  *  How will the winning entry be judged?  (% of score for technology, % for game play, % for amount of stuff u squeze in etc)
  *  Don't see the results page for the previous contest.  Was there a winner for the last yrs contest?
  *  How many winners will be chosen? (1,3,5...?)

Thx,
Ali.
