1  Java Game APIs & Engines / Tools Discussion / Libraries for complex settings dialogs (like NetBeans')? on: 2006-09-25 13:20:37
I am developing a game that will likely have a very complex set of settings. In the spirit of not re-inventing the wheel, I'd like to use an existing library if there is one.

I like the way the NetBeans handles program settings. Can someone point me to a library that perhaps can build a preference dialog like that from XML or something similar?

I'd like something that can easily map a value to a GUI component, i.e.:

<setting name="PlayerName" value="DrE" /> would map to a JTextField and vice-versa.

Regards,
Dr.E

Hi!

How do I make the view to render only the visible stuff? Huh
I have David's Q3BSP loader and if i am looking into a wall, the stuff behind the wall will also be rendered..

Thanks in advance
Emil Alonzo

Could you post a link to this Q3BSP loader? Thanks!

3  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Re: Getting an object's x, y, z position rotation and scale? on: 2005-10-08 13:29:34
Thanks. I'm now printing those pages out for when I either have insomnia or time to try to understand it.

In the short-term, I noticed in Transform3D there's a setEuler() method: http://xith.org/javadoc/com/xith3d/scenegraph/Transform3D.html#setEuler(javax.vecmath.Vector3f)

Why is there no getEuler() that returns a Vector3f?  Huh That'd be so handy! Is there a way around this?

Yikes. I think I can cobble it together from your replies, but I'd love to know what is actually going on. You guys know of a vector math primer site/book?

The search feature of this forum makes it difficult to find such basic info as this (try searching for x, y, z and see what you get).

I just need the classes/methods needed to get the x,y,z pos/rot of an object. I know how to set the rotX(), etc, just now how to read them. I've been on a wild goose chase with Matrix4F. No idea what thats about.  Tongue

7  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Applets in NetBeans on: 2005-10-06 18:24:23
I was just trying out NetBeans for the first time by setting up and applet I'm working on.  It displays fine when I call the appletviewer from the command line or run it in a browser, but when I run it from NetBeans it won't show the graphics (but will show a FPS counter I run with drawString).  I'm using a typical double buffered MemoryImageSource set up.  Any suggestions?

By graphics do you mean things like drawRect() or actual images? NetBeans runs applets and apps from a location other than the directory they reside in, so when you refer to images without a full path, it won't find them.

There are ways to config it. What version of NetBeans? What OS?

Cheers,
Dr.E

If you're looking for a free tool, try The GIMP: http://gimp.org/. It's a powerful alternate to the mainstay, Photoshop.

I for one would recommend you find alternatives to the MS classes. Use something new that has support (and is free!).

What is the intended use?

There are tons of libs out there you could use instead of one from Micro$oft.

Can you post the code near the error?

Got it. For those of you who want to see exactly how it's done:

Easy - look at the source code and edit it by hand. You can't do it with the NB gui designer.

That part I know. Wink I was wondering about the code needed to get the Xith3D window to render in the JPanel.

I want to put a Xith3D window in the blank panel here:

the catch is, it's in the NetBeans GUI designer. What's the best way to about this?
