1  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Setting the viewplatform() correctly to hopefully catch a collision on: 2006-10-31 02:47:53
Hi there,
I'm trying to get a collision to work between two externally loaded geom's (A green pad and a Mag wheel check images).  I'm trying to create a bounds for each shape and then when they collide my behavior function wants to System.out.print something.

I read JK's 3D tutorial and he suggested using bounds so I've been trying to get my head around how to set up my ViewingPlatform branch to successfully manage a collision.  Setting up activation radius as such for the ViewingPlatform.

I can't get my ViewingPlatform to get its bounds set (I already checked the Capability bits).

u is SimpleUniverse

   vp.equals(u.getViewingPlatform());
       vp.setPlatformGeometry( pg );
//      vp.setBoundsAutoCompute(false);
     vppbounds.setRadius(50.0);  //Bounds
     vppbounds.setCenter(new Point3d(0.0, 0.0, 0.0));
/* many different types of bounds boundbox, boundsphere, bound polytope */
      vp.setViewPlatform(viewp);

viewingplatform bounds activation radius:Center=(0.0, 0.0, 0.0)  Radius=-1.0
viewplatform bounds activation radius:Center=(0.0, 0.0, 0.0)  Radius=50.0

I can set my ViewPlatform but not ViewingPlatform ... what am I missing?

Not quite understanding Rule 17. about the 3rd party installers being licensed, we can use Webstart right?

4  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 3D / Re: Online Chapter on Multitexturing Landscape on: 2006-06-28 07:31:09
I purchased KGPJ about 6 months back, it is an excellent text.  Nice examples, and well explained just like this extra OdeJava chapter.  I'd really like to see more info and examples on complex Java3d models - seems to be Java3d's major weak point - Depending on loaders 3ds, vrml to port them in gives me the creeps...
5  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / DIfference between API's? Java3d, Odejava, Xith3D, JME, JOODE? on: 2006-06-27 12:10:14
Hi there,
I've been working on Java3d for about a year now and still pretty rookish at it.  I want to create some fairly accurate models with the correct collision, mouse/key behaviors say of a vehicle or biped creatures.  It was to my massive disappointment that I was unable to produce complex 3D models with Java3d.

I've had a look around at the available options and Odejava seems to be the only other API  I need.  But upon reading the site they seem to recommend also working with JME - my next question is JME compatible with Java3d.  The screenshots at JME are very impressive and is the kind of thing I want to achieve with Java3d... Don't want to learn another totally new API...
6  Discussions / General Discussions / Xj3D, X3D configure mouse and keyboard? on: 2005-09-04 11:39:11
If anyone is familiar with Xj3D API... I found this demo code and he is trying to load a x3d xml image from a JFrame, I can compile but can't run due to need to configure the peripherals - mouse and keyboard not sure how to do this.   I get this java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException?

This leads to the next error in running:  SYSTEMID provided is wrong. Something with a Internal stack traceorg.xml.sax.SAXException;  I realise this is a sun developers site but the folks at www.web3d.org dont have very good help forums.

7  Java Game APIs & Engines / JOGL Development / jogl installation help on: 2005-09-01 16:24:13
I can't find the correct forum to post this in.

Ok i've read How to build the Jogl API page a million times.  the error is:

***********************************************************************************
The property "antlr.jar"of jar file was not set int JOGL properties file.
c:\Documents and Settings\mantis\jogl.properties
(or this file was not found)

Please set "antlr.jar" to the full path of the ANTLR jar including the jar itself.
************************************************************************************

i have installed antlr version 2.7.5.  It says on the jogl help page i should install 2.7.2
but i cant find it on the website.  i also got the latest version of apache_ant_1.6.5

i have already set the full path of antlr.jar in the jogl.properties file.

set CLASSPATH = // already done

in the build.xml file in the ${JAVA_HOME}/make directory i have noticed that
user.home always points to this c:\Documents and Settings\mantis directory
which happens to be the wrong one.  so i edited this and put the new directory in and
still it wouldnt compile.  what am i doing wrong?  is there a way of overiding or
setting the user.home value?

4 Copy and edit jogl.properties:

    * On Windows and X11 platforms: Copy make/jogl.properties into your home directory (pointed to by the Java system property user.home).
    * On Mac OS X: Copy make/jogl.properties into the Library/Java subdirectory of your home directory (pointed to by the Java system property user.home).

Edit the copy to change any settings that are necessary, in particular the location of the ANTLR jar file (typically $HOME/antlr-2.7.2/antlr.jar).
5.  Build the source tree:
Open a command shell in the "make" directory of the source tree and type "ant [target]", where [target] is one of linux, macosx, solaris, win32.vc6, win32.vc7, or win32.mingw.

    * The win32 targets require one of Microsoft Visual C++ 6, 7 (Visual Studio .NET) or the free MinGW (http://www.mingw.org/) compilers to be installed. Choose the appropriate target for the compiler desired.
    * An experimental binding to the high-level Cg language by NVidia corporation can be generated by specifying -Djogl.cg=1 to ant; e.g. ant -Djogl.cg=1 win32.vc6. The Cg binding has been tested on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.
