4  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Quest for a programming language... on: 2008-06-12 11:12:50
I remember that someone posted about some programming language that had syntax simmilar to C and Java, but was simmilar to Flash(AS) in the manner that it had built in all kinds of visual thingies which made it nice for beginners(they could write interesting programs with little code). Also, i remember that it was used somewhere as one of the languages learnt at introduction to programming courses.... Smiley

The problem is that i cant find the topic, cant remember the name and cant google it Smiley

Can any1 help me?

9  Game Development / Performance Tuning / Re: Objects vs mapped objects vs floats on: 2008-01-08 15:02:34
So if i m getting it right, u suggest that :
class Synapse{
   float weights[];

class Layer{
   Synapse synapses[];

would be faster to work with rather then

class Layer{
  float weights[][];

I m talking about neuraln network...i hope that exapmle isnt too confusing... Smiley

11  Game Development / Networking & Multiplayer / Re: Multicast on: 2007-10-30 19:05:18
Sure u do. Clients need to notify the server about the games.
Then other clients will know about them via same server.
12  Game Development / Networking & Multiplayer / Re: JGN vs. Darkstar on: 2007-10-01 19:46:42
hehe...I will also state an advantage of using JGN is that Riven contributed a lot of assistance in its early development as well. Wink

And what kind of advantage is that? :p
13  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Step-By-Step: logic game on: 2007-09-21 09:04:04

16  Java Game APIs & Engines / JOGL Development / Re: Buffers vs array's on: 2007-09-13 12:35:17
Buffers are a  kind of fancy arrays. They keep track on how many data have u written to them etc.
Not a big difference at all, just that buffers are more confy for some tasks like netoworking...
Try googling some tutorials, or wait for a more detailed answer.
17  Java Game APIs & Engines / Tools Discussion / Re: Skeleton Based 2D animator for Games on: 2007-09-06 19:52:50
Indeed, looks very promising.
Webstart would be more than welcome Smiley

}catch(SQLException e){

It wont roll back the creation of tmp table. Am i doing something wrong or is it a feature? Smiley Is it supposed to be deleted manually?

22  Game Development / Networking & Multiplayer / Re: Serialization on: 2007-08-23 15:23:35
Damn i guess that i just overworked...i see the problem...Smiley
I understood everything just fine.
23  Game Development / Networking & Multiplayer / Serialization on: 2007-08-23 15:19:16
Well i guess that i got the thread right, coz this is a part of my networking code.

I guess that i understood something wrong- i thought that if u mark a property to be transient, serialization wont care whether it is serializable or not. Apparently,  i was wrong coz i get notserializable exception for transient field.
I m using Java 1.6.
Is this something new or was i just missing the fact that all objects, transient or not, need to be serializable?
24  Game Development / Networking & Multiplayer / Re: Network Game Engine on: 2007-08-14 12:01:42
Well I might be interested in it 2, so could u post the code/link here?

Yup, real money...

I ll check out the aspect orientated programming.

Tnx for the tips ppl.
29  Game Development / Networking & Multiplayer / Re: Developing secure and fault tolerant server on: 2007-07-23 19:37:24
Indeed, i was looking for that term Smiley

Well i know all that...i m just interested in some resources about building such a thing....I m able to create it, but i guess that there are some know hows....and googling wasnt so nice to me...

30  Game Development / Networking & Multiplayer / Developing secure and fault tolerant server on: 2007-07-23 16:14:06
I started writing a poker game and i have to develop some kind of central server which will deal with all tables...

Anyway thats not so important...whats more important is that client(poker table) and central server need to be really reliable-in case that one goes down, other must be used to restore state etc....Also i have to deal with reliable transactions between the 2.Basically, since its a poker game, i must avoid data(money Wink) losses whenever possible...

I have some ideas and i have alrdy implemented some, but i think that i m reinventing the wheel here, so i could use some tips....any links, tutorials, books on the topic?
Tnx in advance peeps.
