1  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Jumpy Movement [need help] on: 2013-02-24 14:13:38
If you have more than the desired time between two ticks you are performing the
1
tick();
action twice.
This means if you have a delta of 1.00000001 you will do the action two times. This might lead to your jumps.
Try to use the delta in your player class to determine the distance he fall or walked.
2  Games Center / WIP games, tools & toy projects / Re: Java Monopoly Adaption on: 2013-02-10 16:25:07
The thing in Ghettopoly is that he made money off of it.  I highly doubt Hasbro would sue someone making a clone of their game for fun, if anything it's free marketing.  Wouldn't they just tell you to remove the download link before suing anyway?
I think they probably would do that first. But I once had a very bad experience with all this law stuff. So I am very careful now. I think I will collect some more information and change the game as far as needed to be safe.

I know that they possibly don't care but if they do it's quite expensive for me.

Thanks for that remark. I haven't thought about that carefully.
Hence I will not offer the download anymore until I know more about the rights.

Hey guys,
I am working on an adaption of the well known board game Monopoly since I haven't found a good one.
In the current state you can only play with 2-6 human players at the same computer but I am working on the AI and an online mode will probably be available, too.
Here is the game how it looks like at the moment:

Edit:
Removed the download link as I am not shure about the patent rights.
6  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Datastructure for a lot of "People" on: 2012-03-21 13:41:27
Hi,
At the moment I am developing a simulation game.
As there will be many people(prob around 10000) in the game I want to sort the people to have only some 50 or 100 "active" and whe rest stored in a SQL database.
Has anybody an idea how to realize this? I don't want to lose any people during the process if switching between active and passive.

Thanks in advance

There you find the problem: You are loading your image everytime.
8  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Randomly Generated Terrain on: 2011-11-27 08:40:41
Maybe this aritcle will help you a little bit: http://javacooperation.gmxhome.de/LandscapeEng.html
I think it is a pretty simple way to generate 2D Terrain
9  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Rectangular Collision with Tiles not Working Properly on: 2011-11-27 08:18:26
When you are at a point where you use Debugger have a close look at these lines:

1
2
3
public Rectangle colRec() {
        return new Rectangle(Math.round(x + 4), Math.round(y + 3), getWidth() - 10, getHeight() - 5);
}

Here you create a Rectangle that is smaller than your Sprite (why don't you use the existing Sprite class?) and so the Image will go through your Tiles.
10  Discussions / Community & Volunteer Projects / [WANTED] programmers, graphic artists for a medieval simulation/RPG game on: 2011-11-21 12:46:23
Hello everybody,
I am searching for 2-3 guys that are interested in developing a Simulation-RPG game with me.

About the game idea
The story plays in London in the 14th century. The main person is member of the cloth trading guild and the simulation part of the game will be about trading and transport. The RPG part of the game will contain little quests in and around London and some social components like friends that help, love etc. Some elements for making the game more interesting will probably be:
  • competitors which can be taken over or spied out
  • war with France which will raise the taxes and block the trade to Europe partly
  • events like tournaments in London or weddings
  • catastrophes like drought or epidemics
The whole game should be mainly in 3D (Java3D or any Framework), only the organising parts for the trading and transport will be based on 2D maps.

Working conditions
  • volunteer base
  • communication!! via Internet (e-mail or a Forum/Chat)
  • version control and task management online
  • the whole team decides about the used frameworks and other important things considering the development
  • discussion advances the development!
  • at the moment I have unfortunately only 2-3 times per week access to the Internet but I hope I can improve this situation in the near future

About me
I have 6 years of experience in Java development and already worked in development teams.
Concerning game development I have already collected some experience by finishing several projects on my own. This contains very small games like Pong or Snake but also a Monopoly-clone.
In the sector of Java3D I have some advanced experiences but unfortunately I am more a technician than a graphic artist. In setting I don't have any experience but I have a good (I think so) understanding for music. In the AI development I am currently improving my abilities.

Who am I looking for
I am looking for Java game developers in general. The Basics in Java game development should be known. You should especially be interested in the middle age and the game type and also be open to learn new techniques.
Weather you have special experiences/abilities in the sectors of graphic design, music, AI or not your are welcome to join  the team.

If you have any questions please ask them in the forum, there might be other people with the same questions. At the moment I can't answer detailed questions about the game features or the story, because I am still in the design process.

If you are interested please write me a message or an e-mail: Lordpomeroy@web.de

I found enough developers. Thanks
