1  Games Center / WIP games, tools & toy projects / Cannons & Catapults (unfinished project) on: 2011-12-13 14:29:13
It took 31 years after being born, I finally made something that resembles a game. It's based off of Rampart. (No webstart or applet, just a raw jar, I hope that's ok.)

Objective: Destroy the enemy fortresses before they destroy yours or have the most resources by the last round. Surround resources (trees, stone, hidden iron) with walls and place cannons and catapults inside your walls.

Controls: WASD to move through the menus, and space bar is select.

Known Problems:
-It will probably crash or hang on displays with lower resolution (under 1024x768), so don't bother trying.
-There can be some major slowdown during build phases with the maximum number of players due to an inefficient algorithm.
-Even though the game is supposed to finish when you destroy the last enemy fortress, I think I didn't get to write that part, so the game will probably continue to play until the last round.
-Sometimes enemies don't build walls properly due to proximity to resources.
2  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2012 / Re: Drift Driver 4K on: 2011-11-20 19:20:03
I made it to level 3 on the first try, the difficulty doesn't seem too bad until level 4. On level 4, it feels like the car needs more front grip.

Thanks for everyone's advice. =)

when you mean slow do you mean like turnbased?

4  Game Development / Networking & Multiplayer / HTTP/PHP Server for Java Online Game, Bad Idea? on: 2011-11-14 23:57:07
I'm relatively new to Java and I'm planning my next project, it will be a slow-paced command-based online game. I'm hesitant to make the game's server in Java due to inexperience, and instead writing PHP scripts on an HTTP server (something I have experience with). The client will be in Java. Is the HTTP server a bad idea? Should I just bite the bullet and learn to code a server in Java?

Fun game, I'm excited for the reset so I can place my farms properly next time. =)
