1  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 3D / Background Assistance on: 2004-03-20 17:10:39
Hey
I am trying to create an environment for my aircraft war game. So the background should have mountains and hills. Can anyone provide me with an example class of a background so I can see how to go about designing mine.

Please don't ask me to look in the flyingGuns example there are 414 classes if not more I get lost with what it is meant to be doing.

Thanks

2  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 3D / Collision Detection of a shell hitting a plane on: 2004-03-15 23:16:11
Hello
I have two objects Plane and Shell, both have a method createScence() which returns a branchgroup of the geometry of both objects.

The plane is constantly moving, the shell is fired from a gun in an attempt to hit the plane.

I don't have any idea of how to start this, all I know is that I probably need to use WakeUpOnCollisionEntry() etc but I don't know how is everything is going to come together!

please share insight, and provide ideas!..

thanks

3  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 3D / Re: transform3D is non-affine!!! on: 2004-03-03 19:47:32
hello

Yes the variables with and without the "this" refer to the same variables.

You are correct it was mul not add that I needed to use.

I added setTranslation on to the rotation T3D after getting the exception, in a vain attempt to sort the problem.

Thanks a lot for your help

4  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 3D / transform3D is non-affine!!! on: 2004-03-03 17:40:18
hello
I am getting this bizarre exception:

javax.media.j3d.BadTransformException: TransformGroup: non-affine transform

the code that causes this is:

this.inclineRotationT3D.setTranslation(this.curVec3f);
this.collectiveT3D.setTranslation(this.curVec3f);
//collectiveT3D.add(viewingRotationT3D);
collectiveT3D.add(inclineRotationT3D);
debugTG.setTransform(this.collectiveT3D);

the final line is where the exception occurs. As far as I can tell the transform3D should be affine because its only translation and rotation.

I am adding two transform3D to get the effect of both of them into one transform3D.

Is anyone good enough to Huh explain why I am getting this error, and how to work around it.

thanx

5  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 3D / Rotation Assistance on: 2004-02-10 21:12:18
hello
I have designed an Anti-aircraft canon. the canon is meant to move around (move around the Y-Axis) as well as moving up and down (around the Z-axis). I was able to make the canon move around the y-axis but the problem is when I try to move the canon up and down, the canon gets disconnected and moves to a random position on the screen.

can anybody tell me how can I make the canon move up and down the z-axis bearing in mind that the canon can be moved around the Y-axis so the z-axis needs to be updated to the new position of the Y-axis.
6  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 3D / Re: Java3D Aeroplane movement Competition on: 2004-02-07 11:21:45
Thanks for replying Herkules. I can see that the flyingguns is doing exactly what I want. but what I am asking for is how is it done. I need an algorithm that I can use to get the same movement. playing the game would not give me any real insight of how it's moving. I would not be able to figure this out from the compiled code.

please provide me with more detailed assistance.

thanx
7  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 3D / Java3D Aeroplane movement Competition on: 2004-02-04 11:35:47
Hey people I am designing a game in Java3D, I need to make as accurate representation of a plane's movement as possible. I was able to to make the plane constantly move forward using a thread. The difficult part is getting it to move right and left while constantly moving forward.
I had some ideas from some people but no one was able to integrate right or left movement while the plane is going forward. beside the movement did not look very realistic.

The question is can you do it?

thanx
