It's a feature-complete Emulator. Small example-Game here: Wink
2  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Tribal Trouble (finally) released! on: 2005-04-02 03:34:40
Great game...but one little thing:
If I move around the island, the stop of scrolling is very abrupt. Can you add a smooth stop? It should slow down and stop. That way I wouldn't get the motion sickness I am having right now Wink

OK, to be more specific:
I have to render tons of AA'ed Text on the Screen with some nice effects on it...what would you guys use for that?
6  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / EPG on: 2005-03-18 13:56:11

I am one of the Coders of a Java-EPG called "TV-Browser".

(Ok, at the moment we only have German Channels and two Beta-Plugin for adding US-Channels via zap2it and a few international Channels via swedb, but that's not important for my Question Wink ).

I want to create a Plugin that creates a EPG like M$ or most Digital TV-Receivers have. This is Freevo's Design ... I think of creating something similar...

For this I need some help from you guys Wink.

What would you choose and why? Pure Java2d or would you prefere a OpenGL-Lib? Remember that this stuff should run on a Media-PC in the Living-Room...

Do you have some nice Effect-Ideas? Any help is welcome !

i have seen the first kid with a ngage yesterday. here in germany you can get it for 1 ยค with a 2 year contract for a provider. a gba would be cheaper in the long run, but these kids don't care Wink
8  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: Nokia N-Gage, flop? on: 2003-10-12 14:56:33
the problem is that these kids are quit a huge market...haven't you seen some kids playing mobile games ??
i see them everywhere.
9  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: Nokia N-Gage, flop? on: 2003-10-12 12:39:58
Ok, thanks for that Smiley...
and to the gba: nothing beats the gamegear, even now after all those years !!
10  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: Nokia N-Gage, flop? on: 2003-10-12 10:07:28
could you be more specific in what is wrong with that thing? i played with it on a demonstration truck in cologne a few weeks ago, looked very good from my point of view...but i only played 2-3 mins on it.

11  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Re: Cursors in Linux on: 2003-10-09 15:01:52
I tried it a few months ago, seems that the linux java port doesn't use multi-color cursors. multi-color and animated cursors are not very old, maybe the 1.5 will support this. can anyone confirm this?!
12  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Re: JMF and flash on: 2003-10-08 04:01:10

But why would someone do this Wink ?

If the sysadmin thinks that ms word is not safe, he should have the right to forbid it.

if there happens something like the hl2-leak in his firm, he gets fired.

btw: i would forbid ms products Wink

thanks Smiley
15  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Image/project/game of the day archive on: 2003-10-03 17:56:29
don't know if you really understand what i wanted to have: a site where we can promote our stuff to gamers, no tech talk, only games.

the links you gave above are quite a different thing. java-gaming looks right ( a little bit ugly...) but i found only flash games (right click on the games Wink ).

the other two are comercial ones :/
16  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Wiki Structure change on: 2003-10-03 16:15:00
OK, then we have to be a bit clearer what needs to be in the faq area and what needs to be on the other page..

17  Discussions / General Discussions / Wiki Structure change on: 2003-10-03 15:34:58
There were a lot of structure threads recently.
I want to add one more Wink

How about changing the structure on the wiki?

#  FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
# GamingTutorials - Tutorials on game creation with a Java slant.
# HowTo - Shorter tutorials that are more narrow in scope.

into one Page?

I would love to see that, because people could be confused where to find a certain thing....

i can do that change, but i want to discuss it before doing so Wink
18  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Image/project/game of the day archive on: 2003-10-03 15:21:20

First off....silly, just silly.  There are plenty of Java game sites already out there.

hm...don't know any good one for gamers, only this one for coders. Please post some links or mail them to me. i want to put them into the wiki.
19  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: HL2 source code leaked. on: 2003-10-03 09:15:51
Falcon is a Fighter Simulation. If you look at the Link i mentioned above you will see a very active comunity.

The following descrpition was found on slashdot

Falcon 4.0, a landmark achievement in consumer flight simulation technology had its full source code leaked several years ago. What happened aftewards?

Nothing for several months. People went about playing Falcon 4.0 as they did before. Then a user posted a single screenshot to the fora. It showed the Falcon 4.0 options menu, except with some rather peculiar options-- 3dnow! support, 32 bit textures, object texture filtering, DirectX 7 support, and some others. Falcon 4.0 did not ship with support for said features, so either it was an edited screenshot or the user had modified the source code. Then the actual executable was released. It was real, the engine enhancements worked.

Development of the leaked source code exploded shortly after that. A team known as eTeam (the executable was called eFalcon) was created to work on it, devoted to closing the numerous memory leaks, and improving the overall realism and performance of the game. The improvements were incredible, bringing a game released in 1998 to a 2001 state, competitive (or far superior, which was most people's opinions) to simulations released that year. The game's publisher ignored this for a few years.

The game's publisher then put its foot down. It said that all development of the leaked source code had to be ceased. Quickly though the community reached an agreement. It managed to convince the publisher to allow continued development of the leaked source code, as long as the publisher maintained all rights to all of the community's work and was not required to compensate the actual contributors. The result was the Falcon 4.0 Unified Team [], composed of most of the eTeam members (not all though, some refused to join because of the constrictive agreement) as well as many from the Realism Patch group, a non-source code team focusing mostly on realism enhancements. The F4UT has succeeded in making hundreds if not thousands of changes to Falcon 4.0, ranging from technical (graphics engine, campaign engine, AI, sound engine, etc.) to gameplay (new flyable aircraft, dogfight AI improvements, numerous miscellaneous tweaks etc.) to other content (re-done textures, models, sound effects, completely new cockpit art, etc.). The F4UT finally brought Falcon 4.0 to what its original developers intended, not only simulation of F-16 combat, but a true military aviation experience taking place in a dynamic computer simulated war.

How does this relate to Half-Life 2's source code being leaked? Well, sometimes leaked source code can lead to greater things. After the Falcon 4.0 source code happenings, the full source code, including the graphics engine, network code etc. of a few simulations (Enemy Engaged Comanche Vs. Hokum, MiG Alley, maybe some others) have been released to the public. Maybe this practice could spread to other game genres.

Couldn't said it better.
20  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: HL2 source code leaked. on: 2003-10-03 08:47:26

sure valve will survive that...and no one would be so stupid to use the whole engine.

but what about stealing some fractions of the code? a nice effect or something? to prove that is not so easy ...

i hope the post of the source would do something positive like the example i talked about (

21  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Image/project/game of the day archive on: 2003-10-03 08:44:37 back to the real topic Wink

Should we create a new site - javagaming for gamers?
Do we need that? Who should maintain that?

22  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: HL2 source code leaked. on: 2003-10-03 08:40:49
I hope there will be a difference. Heard of Falcon 4.0 ? The sourcecode for that was leaked, too. After a few month someone started to hack around with it, now they have a very active comunity around that hack Smiley.

Would be great to see something like that happening with HL2.

The other difference would be:
Valve should stop using Microcrap software Wink.
23  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Image/project/game of the day archive on: 2003-10-03 02:49:28
You ignore some threads because you have no interest in them. if you put everything into apis, you will see a lot of threads you don't have any interested in. then you have to scroll down all the way to the threads you want to read.

what do you think sucks more? scrolling down and opening all forums you like or scrolling a list of threads you don't like ?

i think the first one is better Wink
24  Java Game APIs & Engines / JInput / Re: Input Abstraction Layer on: 2003-09-28 04:56:14
If you look into the AWTEvent Class, there are much more Event Masks, just try this one : MOUSE_EVENT_MASK

25  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Re: 2D Performance Issues... on: 2003-09-28 04:54:29
There are tons of Tools that do this. It's called Profiling. I am using this :
and love it Smiley.

Download the evaluation Version and look for yourself

27  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Re: Layout managers and black voodoo magic on: 2003-09-26 13:42:36
Come on...just try it. If you used them for a while, you will see that it's not that hard. And if you use layoutmanagers, your applikation behaves nice on resizes. I am using a lot of layout stuff (look at, and don't have problems with it.

28  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Cleaning the forums a bit. on: 2003-09-21 07:16:00
Online Games are not network games. There is a difference, really Wink.

What do the other guys here think about changing the layout? spaceghost doesn't change anything till enough interest is shown Smiley
29  Java Game APIs & Engines / JInput / Input Abstraction Layer on: 2003-09-21 06:44:21

kevglass and  I are writing an abstraction layer for 2d graphics. we just want to add an abstraction layer for input.
that would make it possible to have input via different libraries (jinput or awt).  this is needed because we want to have a solution that is 100% platform independent.

the only solution we have found is to create a key mapper that maps awt keys and jinput key values to the same value, since jinput and awt  use different values for keys. is there a better / faster solution?

30  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: ALIEN FLUX source code on: 2003-09-19 15:34:06
But it's not only the source that is needed. a lot of guys want a tutorial or at least good documented/structured code. no noob will dig into 10k+ lines of code to get an answer to his questions.
